fusion paint

I am in the process of placing glass dividers in a few tanks and was thinking of painting the glass with fusion paint so the fish don't get stress out with other tank mates since the tanks will be for breeding clown fish. Has anyone done this and have the paint stand up to the saltwater and is it reef / fish safe?

Thanks,
Kent

i wouldn't recommend it and have no base for my answer except that i have been painting cars for 20+ years and paint has certain chemicals in it that never completely "offgas" . with that in mind i would expect that there will be some sort of contamination in your system for sure . why not use black Plexiglas instead ?

Personally, I would not risk it but good luck with it. Let us know how it works,if you go that way.

i painted some pvc with that and it did come back off over time.i would take the advise of the others and not use it.just my 2 cents

I've got a few 10 gallon tanks next to each other. After a while, the sides get algae on them and the fish can't see through them.

Fusion is very different from car paint. People have used it for overflows and such. Some people have said it came off over time, others say it has held up fine. I've never seen anyone say that it has seemed to have had an affect on the fish or corals.

I say go for it. It doesn't sound like something that will be in there for years so you won't have to worry about how well it lasts long term.

Thanks guys.....I can always scuff the glass before painting and hope for the best.

Nirvanafan, i laughed when reading your post because i am sure that will be the case. Thanks for the laugh :)

Not sure what way I am going to go yet.

The rumor seems to be that the fusion paint has no noticeable effect on reef tanks. With that said, same goes for brute cans which I believe people had a hard time breeding in. Seems that breeding might be more sensitive than a regular day to day reef
