Garlic as a treatment and preventative?

I was reading on the disease and treatment forum on RC and I read ALOT of threads talking about food soaked in garlic and fine chopped garlic pieces being used as treatment and prevention for ich. How much stock can we put into that? Almost every single person I have talked to on here and at LFS have never used QTs and most of you have fish so we have all encountered ich. I tried Qt and failed miserably so if and WHEN my next ich battle occurs should I go to the spice rack and pull out the ole' garlic? Even start using it now as preventative. I know that garlic improves appetite, it's in the Rod's food I use. Any thoughts?

I had a pretty bad time with Ich and I soaked the food in Garlic Extreme by Kent and fed my fish daily and it cleared up a little after a week and has been gone since (about a month ago). Not a single fish died and they LOVE the garlic taste and smell.

I've used Koylic (sp?) Liquid Garlic from GNC with great success in the past. I once had a Royal Gramma that would get it repeatedly so I included it in homemade food mix, but not anymore. Some say if you use it all the time it will lose its effectiveness.

I also got a royal gramma that developed ich and used the seachem garlic additive with great success. I dont feed them all the time with it, just when I make up brine shrimp. If I get an ich breakout, i'll use some with flake foods and the ich usually clears up in a week or so.
