Gas extensions for Heavy Canopy lids

I was just visiting with "Zann" and looking at his "Beautifull new "monster" size tank" that he is setting up when the discussion came up about "heavy canopie lids".

I remembered that I had a "link" to a company that I have used in the past that sells "gas extensions" that are exactly what you need for most heavy canopy lids.

I have used them on boat deck lids and tool box lids in the past as well, and have never found them as cheap as on this site.

So I thought that I would share this link with anyone that has a "heavy" canopy lid that sould like to make it easier and "safer" for you and your family to open.

Bill,

#1 - Bless you. I keep forgetting that I always planned on putting lifting struts on my canopy to assist off-set the weight. (It is after all, 3/4" Plywood, plus a copious amount of trim.) I lift the front half of the entire top when I do tank maintenance, and add Nori. Otherwise, I just use the feeding door on the right.

#2 - Are these stainless? (Read: Will they hold up to the sea-type environment?)

Thanks. Struts would be much better than my current "Master Supporting Mechanism"……… an over-sprayed scrap piece of 1x2" left over from the job.

You might want to see if they are oil lubricated. If so they need to be sealed so that they do not leak into the reef. Just ask Exxon how reef safe an oil spill is. ;-)

I don't know how workable they would be into your canopies, but I'd imagine you could pick up a pair off a camaro at a pull-a-part for cheap?

I know there's a black 89 RS in a junkyard somewhere in the Mem area. :(
