I would also and I should have mentioned this earlier if you have it place a layer or two of window screen supported by eggcrate or something similar to give it time to adjust to your lighting.

I couldnt try to feed it even if i wanted to, there is no where for anything to stick to it let alone a spot to put food lol. As for the pumps.... for now my main koralia is off its in a spot with low to medium flow, not enough to blow it off the rocks and make it go floating around the tank.

My main question at this point is what is the deteriation rate? Once It dies should I expect to have to have it removed within and hour, two hours, ten hours? If it does die and it starts deteriating in the tank and im not home, what are the effect it will have on the life in my tank.

I have never had one decompose on me so I really don't know. I would think it would take a while for it to start coming apart though.

Im pretty sure its starting..... it now has a few tears outside of its mouth. Im giving it about another hour while I run to walmart..... If it looks worse at that point Im settling it as a loss.

(1) Smell it. If it doesn't stink like the worst thing you have ever imagined x10, it is not decomposing (yet).
(2) Circulation and oxygenation are CRITICAL. When an anemone is inverted like yours is, their normal circulatory system is impaired. You MUST get it into a moderate flow, high oxygen environment! EVEN IF IT FLOATS AROUND! If you are worried about it floating into something, put it in a cage or restrain it in some other way.

Sorry to say it does not look good, but there is always hope.

While I've never had one completely deteriorate on me, I still wouldn't count it out just yet. I think an basket or breeder net is essential at this point to both protect it from your other animals/powerheads, but also just in case if it does die it will keep the remains in one place (it could float around and get shredded). Flow is also going to be essential. Not enough to blow it around, but you do not want stagnant water around it. It needs fresh water to get rid of waste it is attempting to expelled by inventing. It does look a bit rough, but remember that one survival technique of BTA's is to split if under stress. I'd say its stressed! The tears you are seeing may be the start of a split potentially. (I'm a bit of an optimist). Also, if it was me, I would also just cut lights for the reat of the day to minimize its effort to acclimate. I can completely understand the worry of it nuking your tank while you are at work, but if you have water ready for a change, put it in a basket, run carbon and skim well you shouldn't have to worry about your other corals and fish overnight. I wish I could be as optimistic as the others, but I don't see this anemone surviving the night. I hope you can prove me wrong, but I just don't see it. Sorry.:sad1:

Its caged to the best of the ability.... I honestly dont want to move it to much simply because thats more stress. At this point it still looks worse it is moving some and the flow in the tank is on just redirected.... Its not floating. Elegance I have read a ton of your posts and your opinion is probably fairly accurate. The lights were cut a couple hours ago to just acinics (normal lights are off now anyways). The thing I dont get is that the insides are completly inverted, I would completly figure this was a sure sign with the tears that it was probably done for.

I think im going to call LA back, if they are willing to credit me the money Ill order another one and pull this one out of the tank and call it a day. It is not worth risking all the other animals in the tank while im at work. I do have enough water ready for a 15g water change if needed (already did a 5g last night to prepare for today). But at this point I think its just about a lost cause. Ill let you guys know what LA says.

Called LA, Im happy with the customer support, they refunded my full amount. They said they dont normally refund shipping but in this case because it was one item they would. Here is the last picture of it before it comes out of the tank. Its a pitty to the clowns have been very interested in it (even if only to eat the pieces comming off of it). Ill keep this thread updated with my next attempt from LA. I have credit there now so ill be trying again.

Wow, that is some tough luck... It was a gorgeous GBTA though... Too bad... If you were closer to me, I'd get you one of my RBTA's... I've found aquacultured BTA's do MUCH better than wild caught ones... At least you got your money back...

Ill be trying again.... they have some good looking ones, Ill do a 20% water change tommorow morning and get everything ready for another try from LA. Figure they were nice enough to refund me I might as well give them another chance. This time Ill order it from them on the phone and ill make sure they have it held at the fedex station for morning pickup.

Remember next time before you open the bag temp acclimate it and then when you do open it check the ammonia levels shortly after. Again if they are raised get it in the tank quickly. Sorry this one didn't end up so well but now you have a better idea of what to check for if things start looking funky.

Sorry for losing such a gorgeous specimen. How long has your tank been set up & cycled? It's suggested to wait at least 6 mos. before adding an anemone to a new tank. The water parameters aren't stable enough before that. & it also gives you time to read up on the proper care of inhabitants you want to add. Welcome to Reef Central & good luck in this amazing hobby!

I did temp acclimate for five minutes before I opened bag....the temp was already close to my tanks when I received it. I should have checked ammonia right away tho. Next time I will. Thank u very much to everyone who tried to help me save it. I appreciate the people on this site very much. Instead of just tossing it in the thrash I put it in a five gallon tank with tank water and a small pump. If it somehow makes it (which before I left it looked horrible...no smell tho) ill let u guys know. I want to see if it deteriates and how long it takes so I know what to look for next time. Again thank u to everyone.....and LA for making things right.

Ok.....so it does stink.... but I think ive smelt worse, lol. That was a mess to clean out of the little tank, lol. Well at least I know how long it takes now approximately from where it was at. Im sure moving it a lot helped it along. Anyways did a 20% water change, cleaned mechanical filters like 3 times between yesterday and today. Preparing tank for another shot.

Saw on the LA update for DD they were getting a couple new BTA's today, so I went on as soon as they posted and they had a GBTA with purple tips, I jumped on it. I should receive the new BTA Tuesday, I will temp acclimate for 15 mins then check ammonia, if it looks bad as soon as I get it Ill get it in the tank as soon as I can. Everything should be ready for it. Ill prob do one more 10% water change Sunday and double check everything else twice. The levels in the tank are all still good. Wish me luck on this second attempt, If this one doesnt work out its probably the last time ill order Online. So here is the new one im getting, paid for with my credit from LA (thank you again to LA for working with me).

Tank has been up and cycled for 4 months. Yes I didn't wait the "reccommended" 6 months but that has nothing to do with the survival of the anemone I received unfourtanetly. It was in horrible condition the moment I received it. My water parameters have been stable for over 2 months, I check everything at least weekly, almost obsesively. Nothing in my tank ever fluctuates. The only thing I have had is some diffrent minor algae's but nothing thats been a real problem and isn't kept in check by my CUC and grazers. Also I have read just about everything there is to read on the keeping of anemones, while im sure I still have a ton to learn I have over 100 hours of reading just on clown/anemones. Before I even started my tank I was reading about them just to prepare. My whole reason for starting this hobby was the symbiotic relationship between clowns and anemones and is what will keep me in this hobby for years to come. It sucks that I lost the nem, but the new one im getting is hopefully in better condition when I receive it. I have 4 diffrent corals in my tank currently (one beign a Torch) and all of them have great growth and expansion of polyops. Wish me luck come Tuesday when I receive the new guy, and Ill keep this thread updated.

Give it another 24 hours and it will smell like its been dead since Roman times. I won't detail all the smelly things I have encountered in my life, but dead anemone is top of the list

One of my first anemone's died while I was out of town... It was decomposing to the point where it was disintegrating when I touch it... It was impossible to get out in 1 or 2 pieces... That smell was very foul... I was lucky the tank didn't crash...
