Hello,

I figured I would start a build thread for my 220g display. I need to stop being a total hermit and actually come to one of the orca meetings one of these days. Lol

I went with a brand new marineland 220g tank and after having a seam start to separate on a 145g custom. I figured I would go back to basics and get a name brand tank. Hopefully it holds up...

I went with the r&j aquatics stand and hood for the extra height and it being furniture grade wood. *** special note!!! If you are inking about an r&j stand, I highly advise seeing it in person before purchasing... I ordered mine, and had to cut the back brace to get a 75g standard sump in... Not real happy about that! *** other then that, the stand is great. Lol :p

Equipments so far...

- 220g (72x24x30) marineland w/ dual overflows
- R&j aquatics stand and hood, cherry finish
- 75g sump (I got a new tank and installed baffles & 7" filter sock holders)
- 3x hydra 52's. (2 reg and 1 hd)
- ro 220 int skimmer w/ dc pump
- gyre 250 power head
- 2x mp's & battery backup (not sure if I'll use them or not)
- apex gold package
- tunze 3150 ato
- bio pure block and 1/2g of spheres
- waveline dc return pump
- bunch of misc goodies :) lol

I had most of the rock cooking for 3-4 months. I previously vinegar or acid bathed it...

let there be light! :) only issue with the lights is that the regular 52's and the 52hd require different controls. that means 2 sets of programming, and ect... kind of a pain. the lights rock though! lol

i've been ghost feeding every day... so far all the levels are stable.... maybe cooking the rock for 3-4 months before starting the tank worked? ;) i'm so ready to start adding some livestock! i'll still give it a couple weeks, just to make sure....

crappy cell pics, but it gives you the idea. i'll break out the nice camera one i start stocking...

I am planning on putting all fish through a qt and treating with prazipro and cupramine....

In qt now...

1- Flame hawk
1 - red head salon wrasse
5 - pajama cardinals
1 - diamond goby
1 - yellow watchman goby
2 - blue spot gobies m/f pair

On the list to get....

1 - Yellow tang
1 - blonde Nassau tang
1 - Blue hippo tang
5 - Lyretail anthias- 1 male & 4 females
1- Midas blenny
1- Mc coskers flasher wrasse - male
1- Whip fin fairy wrasse - male
4- pyramid butterfly

Thoughts or suggestions for stocking list?

I'll probably also get a gigantea carpet nem down the road a little... Maybe take down the fish population some. :-o lol

Well, I was well on my way to being stocked, when ich showed up... So... I removed the riteri, the few pieces of coral, and inverts and placed them in qt....

I thought I would share treating my fish with hypo salinity.... I'm treating them in the dt, instead of trying to catch them all. I lowered the salinity to 1.009 over the course of 3 days. I'll leave them for 6-8 weeks in hypo salinity. This will reportedly kill the ich. I'll then qt and treat any new fish and coral. It will be a pita, but will be worth having a healthy tank...

No worries... I'll treat them all at once, and feel good about their overall health. I won't have the "hoping & wishing" feeling from not treating them... At least I can still watch and enjoy them by doing the hypo treatment in the dt.

I built a box to attach to the end of the stand to contain most of the controls. After a couple more coats, it will hopefully match up failrly close with the stand color. Works out nicely in my head :-p we will see how it comes together. Lol I just didn't feel like crawling around under the tank to mess with the controls.... Besides, it gives me something to tweak on until the hypo salinity treatment is over and I can start adding nems and coral

thanks! i'm diggin it....

i finished the box, attached it, and got most of the controls wrapped up. i still need to perform some finishing touches, but pleased at how it is looking so far :)

i still need some black wrap or something to cover the overflows :-p
