Gem tang for $1100. To do or not to do...?

Awesome! Can't wait to see some pictures. And yes, I am learning this is an expensive hobby. I guess I didn't notice how big your tank one when I made my conservative estimate. Enjoy!

@fish biscuit-may I inquire how much was he offered to you?
The guy I got him from was initially going to give him to me @$1700 a month or so ago. But I contacted him on Black Friday since he was having a 60% off sale. I asked him if that was going to be 60% off as well?
He laughed but then told me he'd give it to me @the 1100$ price.

Congrats on the new acquisition... When opportunity knocks its always best to take advantage, or else it typically ends with kicking yourself in the butt!

Prob $1500 tops but might have been closer to what you paid, I didn't push for a $ amount since I knew I'd have to upgrade soon. I offered to take one & return it when it gets too big but that was met with giggles.

I never quite understood the concept of "expensive fish". We can spend $5000-$10000 or more on a tank then just stock it with $20 fish???

Most hobbyists don't spend $5-10k total let alone that much for just the tank or $1k+ for one fish.

I would wager that "most" hobbyists have an average size tank in the 90-120gal range and a fully stocked setup won't (well I should say "shouldn't") cost them $5-10k.

I have a 210gal reef setup (WaveMakers, leds, controller, big skimmer, dosing pumps, ato, etc. - not bare bones) that I have a grand total of less than $4k in...

Probably my favorite fish I ever kept was a Grey Angel. Such personality. And the detail in his greyscale (heh heh) body just fantastic. Didn't have a big enough tank as he grew and gave him away. I think I paid about 25 bucks as an LFS.

If that's true, you are definitely below average spending on that size tank/setup

Here are 2 pics. Hard to see clearly sorry. He's a fast SOB

It's true, but I have a mixed bag of new/used equipment (cost is equipment alone and not livestock though). If your someone who just has to have brand new stuff I'm sure you'd spend a lot more lol

Their was a thread here on Reef Central where people listed the cost per gallon in their setups.

I'm post #27 on there...

Average Cost Per Gallon http://www...hread.php?t=2448837 Average Cost Per Gallon

I came up with $16/gal on my 210 gal. I wasn't the lowest so it can be done cheaper than I did it still.
