General Opinion on Lee Mar?

I like my LeeMar. It's the first glass tank I've owned and I will never go back. My next tank will probably be an ELOS, I've been very happy with the quality of thier products.

Why wont you go back?

well im not sure its called flat polshed and they use a clear view glass so its there version of a low iron or "starphire" glass

its very nice clear no flaws at all and everything stands out like theres nothing in the way of the water and u....

yes its euro braced around the perimeters with about a 6" piece around the perimter...it has the center trapezoid overflow all drilled and plummed for an internal return.... the back is black.... that alone was $1200 before taxes.... after i added the otehr holes for my CL and then tax it was at about $1400

you probably won't notice the difference unless you put two tanks next to each other with the exact same setup. Starphire is a brand of glass from PPG i believe.

My GF really liked the look of the starphire tank at Tong's so we went with starphire. Low iron is just a clearer glass. They are probably the same, however starphire is more expensive because it bears the name starphire. However, I would like to see the difference if any.

i was told the polished clear view glass is bascially the same as starphire but not the "name brand" that PPG put with it so its cheaper in that respect but just as good as quality

i think on my tank with 1/2" glass on my 180 using the polished clear view it looks awesome!

It is definitly not the same as starphire glass. But unless you don't know before hand or someone decides to put a starphire tank next to mine the only ones who would know are looking for the difference. Bottom line is that if the tank looks good inside, that is all that counts. The difference in glass is minimal and if you put the extra $600 toward a bigger skimmer you will be much better for it. That alone will do more for your coloration than the starphire glass ever will.

There is a difference, its hard to tell looking head on but from end to end Starphire is much more clear.

As far as I know Lee Mar is the only tank builder who uses it in So Cal...You hear a lot about IA tanks and other Canadian makers that claim to use Starphire......I guess it sounds better to say "Starphire" rather then "Low Iron"

I used advance aqua tanks and they use starphire as well. You can tell by blue tint on the glass.

I'm confused:confused: Starphire shouldn't have a blue tint

Mark, I think he's talking about looking at it edge on. Starphire doesn't have a dark green tint, it is light blue. Straight on standard glass is green, and Starphire is clear!

starphire glass has a bluish tint. Regular glass has a green tint. Not sure what low iron looks like.

haha, sorry, i meant the edge...

So technically that means starphire has a bluish tint.
I didn't know that.
It sounds to me that it is just less green than normal glass, which we percieve as light blue.

When you are looking edge on, you are just looking through more glass.

So regular glass has a greenish tint and starfire has a blueish tint. Can you really tell the difference by looking through the front of the tank assuming the glass is 1/2 inch thick? If not, then the only reason to get starfire is so you can tell your friend that its clear on the side and has a blue tint? Sounds like a waste of money to me.

I think its all based on people's perception and opinion. I have some friends that think the entire hobby is a waste of money.

here's a pic of the edge, not sure if you can see from this pics tho.

if you want to see a side by side comparison... go to Tong's and look at the 3 tanks in the back. The one on the left, the sps tank is starphire with lower lighting than the one in the middle and IMO, the SPS tank looks quite a bit brighter.
