Genicanthus Semifasciatus!!!

here are some wild shots of G. semifasciatus in the wild. check out that insane tail of the melanospilos too!

these are taken in japan, as can be seen by the C. nippon in the first photo.

copps, do they look any different from the philippine ones? to me, they just look larger.

Excellent shots! Look at that male semifasciatus kicking it with the female melanospilos... the makings of my hybrid! They look no different... just more vibrant... I need to see more shots of the Northern Philippine semifasciatus...

Interesting. I asked because I noticed a significant change with my male blackspot when I upgraded the reef from the 110g to the 150g.

Time will tell Peter... I'm hoping he/she will grow some and change for the better...

Do you know where it was collected?

if i'm not wrong, philippines.

it's so long ago i need to ask him again.

it was sold to him at melanospilos price, i believe some $30+, even though the shop owner knew it was special.

it was dying, not feeding and in poor condition, but seemed to have improved in health and became very healthy.

but being a lone specimen, i'm not sure if the colours kept. he has not updated on the fish thus far.

female colouration of bellus x melanospilos would be unique...wonder what'll look like.

John I always wondered why collection of this particular geni species is not more prevalent.

out of all the obtainable genicanthus this is by far my fav ones.

Best I can get you :)

they were beautiful healthy specimens. How are these angels compared to the other more available angels? such as bellus, wantanabei ect.?

My new favorite fish

copps, what do you think of this.

i've had the photo for awhile. it's taken by my friend in hongkong. he bought the fish.

do you think it's a bellus x melanospilos? or semifasciatus x melanospilos. i'm leaning toward the former... the position of the yellow on the stripes is very bellus.

Quick update, made the transition to the DT, both fish are doing great, no aggression from tank mates and eating everything.

Am trusting that a few of you 'old hat' Genicanthians will help guide me through this. Even with DD's rep, I obviously plan to QT. First question in that regard: Is there anything species specific I need to be aware of during this process? Any treatment sensitivities? Peculiarities? Best foods to have on hand? Kinda feeling like an expectant father here.

I haven't found my blackspots to be terribly susceptible to ich, and coming from divers den I wouldn't expect an issue, so I wouldn't hypo or copper just yet. I like the idea of deworming. Mine were one of the only fish that would actually eat the Jungle brand medicated food. Alternately, try using metro in regular food, or prazi on the whole QT. I'd probably eventually get both done, to deal with anythign internal and external.
