Genicanthus Semifasciatus!!!

I just finished a 6week qt of a semifasciatus. And just saying what I did, not that it's right.

55g with at least 50 pounds of live rock. HOB skimmer. Cannister filter changed weekly.

Took to food within 2-3 days. Really liked mysis.

Didn't gain weight in qt but toward the end, started really eating well.

Now in DT, he has been the most aggressive eater and is getting thick.

No treatment. Just observation.

Mine are in the display eating the only food I feed- Roger'sreeffood.
Both eating out of the mesh and minimal issue with my established female wantanabei

PICS --- gotta luv them genicanthus

FWIW, the fish were eating Hikari Mysis, San Fransisco Bay Brine shrimp and PE Mysis with some New Life Spectrum Pellets.

I got a Semifasciatus female and just added her to my tank with my Melanospilos pair.

Well, the male couldn't care less that she's there, but the female is chasing her, how long will she chase her? I thought that females were OK with each other.

Well, they're here and in the process of being acclimated. So far so good though one of the females seems slightly weaker than the other and the male occasionally 'runs' her. Normal? Should I separate the male either now or in QT?

I would separate the female that seems weaker. If one is pushed more than the other it will hinder her ability to adapt.

The fish are now in QT; the male separated from the females by a sheet of eggcrate. Other than observation (from afar), I'm going to leave them pretty much alone for the rest of the day.

From what I've heard the females can be pretty aggressive with the other females. I'm sure you're watching them, but I'd be ready to separate them too if need be.

Good luck with these beautiful fish and I can't wait to see pictures!

That is probably the best way to QT them at first. Get them separated and eating and healthy...then let them come together. By then if they bicker, it will be much easier for them to recover.

All three are eating; first attempt.! Can't say enough about the folks at DD.

Btw, I have them all separated now with eggcrate dividers. May shoot a few pictures tomorrow.

Any consensus on fluke treatment? Simply observe or dose just in case. They don't have a mark on them.

I would let the fish settle for 4-5 days. Once eating plenty go ahead and dose 2 rounds of Prazi. One week of break in between

Beautiful, and I think the sizes are perfect, not huge and not tiny either!

Good luck and please keep us updated.
