Genicanthus Semifasciatus!!!

they have been missing in the hobby for many years already and have only been appearing in one or two pieces.

this is the current influx in the past 4 years, at least in my country, and they have been flooding almost everywhere now!

so yeah, you could call this the "season" :O

Sudden problems in QT! Weaker female (#2) died this evening. Other two still eating but behaving strangely; both unusually active. Male hanging by the filter return the female by the aerator bubble return. Neither are flashing and I can see no signs of parasite infestation. I gave them their first dose of Prazi last Sunday but it took all of them off their feed so I slowly diluted it via water changes. Replaced carbon tonight after noticing these issues. Temp and salinity ok.

Any thoughts would obviously be welcomed.

Sorry to hear that. Any redness on the body of the dead fish? Just checking to see if there's any decompression issue.

All dead. QT tank appears to be cycling again! Unless the dose of Prazi entirely killed off the bacteria bed, I don't understand why. The tank has been set up a few months now and cycled (the first time) with live rock and a pre-seeded filter sponge I kept in my sump. Before the angels, I had put through a school of damsels with no issues.

I really feel better if someone explained how my own stupidity caused all this because right now I'm completely at a loss as to what went wrong and that really, really sucks.

I'm so sorry! I've had fish act poorly with prazi, but never death. I know a friend that lost several potter's wrasses after dosing prazi, but I'm not sure these angels are as sensitive? Again, sorry for your losses :(

Im very sorry to hear of your loss.. Maybe these are very delicate angels? It is hard to tell. It sounds shitty, atleast you will get all your money back with DD.... I know a grand isnt easy to lose. I hate losing fish:(

This is the second loss Ive seen with these fish. Both losses came from seasoned reefers with great QT practices. Its gotta just be the species. Sorry for your losses they were really beautiful.

( I decided not to QT my pair after their experience)
Mine spent 7 days alone in a frag tank eating and so forth- they are currently in my display w/o any visible issues.

Sorry for your loss.

This is exactly what I did too. Both fish have been thriving in my DT for a month. Sorry to hear about this...

U guys want to hear the best story about this fish-pretty unbelievable.

This feels like one of those John ( Copps) stories except mine was at an LFS w/o diving gear.
To make this 10 x more amazing here it goes.

I got the pair at a rather large chain of aquarium stores( nameless). The fish ate imediately in the store and while the kid was netting the male it JUMPED behind the tanks and I mean 6 feet tall cubicle to the floor with no access to the back except from the bottom, I almost had a heart attack, quickly i got in all 4 removed the wood cover and here he was flapping around, barehanded him and put it straight into the first available cubicle.

The MALE nonetheless! Waited about 10 mins looking at him and said to myself its been a while since Ive seen them so I'm gonna wait it out.

The fish looked labored breathing and beat up. Waited and waited until he looked "ok".

Here I am looking at a pair of fish that Ive ordered about 5 times ( w/o succes) since I lost my pair 2 years ago, I was not leaving them at the store!.

Took them home decided against QT due to the above stress, In my frag tank about 1 hr after introduction with no other fish around they where both eating like pigs.

Will c how this develops before I decide on QT treatment.

Crazyest thing I've had happened to me with a pair of fish I've been after for a while.

IN FRONT OF MY EYES THE FISH TOOK A DIVE FROM 6 FEET HIGH I almost choked the vendor LMAO

Here's a quick iphone pic I took the moment I saw them .

Mike,

I'm sorry you lost those beautiful fish...If anyone would have done well with them, it would have been you.

I had an issue with Prazi way back when AEFW's were newly appearing in tanks. I took all my acros out and placed into a smaller QT tank with a biolfilter and a powerhead, and dosed the Prazi. When I woke up the next morning I had a QT full of dead acro's.

I never did discover exactly why the acro's all died. The water was from the display they came from, and the biofilter was a HOB Aquaclear filter filled with a couple of bioballs I put in the sump for 2 weeks prior to treating to grow bacteria specifically for the QT/treatment. Temp was fine, circulation was fine, no lights were on so there was no issue there. The only thing I could think of at the time was that the bacteria got nuked by the Prazi and caused the tank to cycle, killing everything off.

Regardless, I'm sorry the fish didnt make it man.

Nick

Hoping is just a phase but in the past( IME) this spells doom for this guys.
