I use CaribSea Geo-Marine in my reverse flow reactor. I run the effluent between 7-7.1
BTW, ER's are way over priced and not all that great of a skimmer. I bought my CS6-3 for 350.00 about 5 years ago ( I guess the high cost of oil is the reason for the HUGE price increase) Plus their customer service is second to ALL.
There is no rule of thumb you just have to keep checking with a Ca test. I'd start out at between 20 and 30 drips per minute, and whatever bubble rate keeps your pH at 6.5 in the reactor at that drip rate.
I just received my 6X18 reactor and I have a quick question. The black tube that connects between the bubble counter and the solenoid has a tiny plug inside of it on the end where it screws down into the bubble counter. Am I supposed to leave that plug in or remove it. I was wondering how the co2 would enter the reactor with this plug present.
Also, have you guys/gals installed a brass check valve between the solenoid and the reactor that George recommends?
All I can say is THANKS to all those on this thread who supported GEO products. It was a really tough decision for me but after being set up for just shy of a week and using the method suggested to me on this thread, my calcium and alk levels have been rock solid. I'm using a Milwaukee controller with the unit and this has truly been a set it and forget it operation.
