I would love a Geo skimmer but I can't get George to respond to my emails, how are you guys doing it?

he has been out of town quite a bit lately.

I spoke to George Yesterday abou a new skimmer and A sump. He did say that he had a ton of e-mail to read.

have a couple questions.im thinking of purchasing a 612 reactor and a kalk reactor for my 46bf.im not sure i understand how the kalk reactor works.i was under the impression that you want the kalk to settle at the bottom so it doesnt end up in the tank.so why are you mixing it several times a day?ok now doesnt the kalk increase the calcium,so why the use of a calcium reactor also.im confused:confused:

46bfinGA, I run both , I used just a kalk reactor for a year, but then my tank couldnt keep calcium levels above 360 by itself, so I added a calcium , now my calcium is always around 450 . It just depends on how much demand you have for calcium in your tank .
The kalk reactor stirrs the kalk from the bottom a couple times a day to keep the mixture saturated, it settles out quickly and the white cloud in the reator doesnt make it to the very top of the reator which is where the topoff water is pulled from.

If you can maintian your calcium levels with just a kalk reactor thats a good way to go, calcium reactorsa give you higher levels of calcium but they really lower your ph, that is why I need to run both now, if I just run the calcium reactor without the kalk reactor my PH drops.

Update.. I still haven't been able to get ahold of George by phone or email after my initial email back from him last week. I did however get ahold of Premium Aquatics and they are supposed to get some GEO-612s in this week and next. I'm now on the waiting list so hopefully I will have one soon. Apparenty he is selling out faster than he can make them. Thanks for your help guys..I'll let you know when it arrives.

You do not need a Kalk reactor to used pickling lime for your reef tank .A contender that will hold 10-50 gallons of ro-di water add pickling lime and mix one time only.To fine out more about this chech Randy Holmes-Farley reef chemistry form.No need to spend money on a kalk-reactor when none is needed.

The kalk reactor just takes up alot less space then a 50 gallon holding container. I used that method for a short time, it works, but I like the small space of the reactor better.

tony10 a 5 gal container will work as well, mixing it more then one time will not help the picking lime unless you are adding more picking lime.Alf Jacob Nilsen who started the Nilsen reactor used them on very large reef tanks because he did not like calcium reactors .

RGibson, I see you point, but having to fill up a 5 gal. container every day would suck all that could suck. :)

I was using a trashcan, and will be going back to that after I get the other tank back up and going, but since I had the reactor, (which will go on the other tank) figured i'd run it drawing water from the trashcan instead of kalk.

New slogans for Geo's use:

"We like it nasty, Geo-style!" ok... so that one would be misinterpreted...

How about "You don't know foul until you've met a Geo!" ;)

I just pulled out my second full container of goop, and it was absolutely horrible. All I know is, it's a good thing my newly become wife of a few months wasn't in the basement! Enough to bring a grown man to his knees heh.

Thinking of Skimmer 828

Thinking of Skimmer 828

Thinking of 828. I have a 210 gallon reef. 25 fish, sps,softies,lps.

How is this skimmer? Is it quiet? Quality? Removal of cup?

I need help!! Considering versus H & S.

If you look back 3-4 pages, you'll see his most current design/model. If you give him a call, or send him an email with your tank specs and such, he can give you the idea of exactly what to build for you.

My skimmer moves a LOT of water, so honestly I don't expect it to be silent, however being in the room for more than 10-15 seconds I don't notice it either.

You won't find better quality or service in my opinion.

I just removed my cup, cleaned it, and reassembled in a couple of minutes if that tells you the ease of that process.

Is there a mod kit available for the Geo? Does the water flow back uunder water or above from mod?

Hard to tell what you're asking. In an attempt to answer your question, water coming in enters via that ball valve at the top. Water leaves via the PVC opening at the bottom inside, and flows out once it reaches a certain height.

Here is a 180 degree picture to help.
