Guys,
Any tips on getting a nice 6 Inch Plus Naso Tang Eating? Ive tried Mysid, PE Mysid, Rogers Reef Food, Spirulina flakes, pellets ext... No Success..

Any help greatly appreciated.

Steve

Was he eating before you got him? Usually the bigger naso tangs are easier to get to eat. If you didnt see him eat before you purchased you took a big gamble. I tried two different small nasos (2.5-3") and was never able to get either to eat frozen no matter what I did

Yes,needed info, but i have always had good luck with celery leaves and spinach as snacks for my tangs (including my large naso)..Never seen any not eat it

Definitely. Most tangs love turnip greens, , broccoli, and cucumber too. I raised many tangs on these veggies, instead of the usual romaine, long before the nori and similar products were available. I have a lot of tangs, and all ate mysis as a first food in my QT. Tangs are considered herbivores, but they also get a lot of tiny crustaceans as the graze on the reef.

Mine took nori on the 3 rd day and for a week before he took mysis. Then went on a hunger strike for a week before she ate again. Now out of qt...she only eats nori. She was a gamble out of wholesaler bag that morning...she's bout 6+ inches...good luck...

I get naso tangs in all the time from Hawaii and you have to particulate the seaweed/nori to get them started eating. Wet the seaweed and mince into tiny pieces and spread throughout the tank. I have to do this with just about every naso I get in from Hawaii. As the small pieces float in the water column they willstart nipping at the algea as it floats by then eventually it will take bigger pieces. Finally it will start eating off the clip.

Just tried above... Blended some nori in water. He ate the smaller pieces...
thanks you!!

Sounds messy, but it worked so that's good. Does it all eventually get eaten or do you have something in there to take care of the left overs?

Same story here. He doesn't even look at mysis/brine and was ignoring nori on a clip. I spread nori on small pieces of rocks and he ate them. Then I 'mixed' in my nori clip and it went well. For some reason he likes small pieces and he never start eating right away. Still ignoring frozen for some reason...

Often Nasos will take to nothing but brown seaweed. I've had luck with small ones taking frozen and pellets but over 5 inches is a hit or miss.
