Getting rid of carpet, will clowns be okay?

I recently got a carpet anemone and a pair of clarkii clowns. I dont know why I got a carpet, had one in college and I guess I forgot how sticky they are. So far I have lost my coral beauty, catalina goby, and my pepperminy shrimp to its sticky paws. Well I really dont want the carpet eating everyting i buy so I am thinking of getting rid of it. Will my clowns get stressed too much if I remove it? I would like to replace it with a bta. Would it be better to have the bta in the tank and then remove the carpet?

They'll be OK, but they make flipper you off!

They don't have to have an anenome...they just like it.

they will be fine, they my defnd the nem as you try to remove it and bite you,
You can get them any other nem and the will be fine and go straight into it. Bta, lta etc.

Any tips to getting the carpet to unattach without harming it. Its foot is buried in the sand and is attached to the glass below.

Powerhead on the foot?

scoop away as much sand as you can and use a razor blade to wedge it off the glass...........use the blade as if you were scraping coraline algae off glass

2nd the use of a power head... I wouldn't take a razor blade personally - just beacuse I'd be scared I'd slip and cut it. Do you have a glass scraper? Maybe you could use a powerhead scraper combo? Let us know how it does and post pictures if you can!

Here is a picture of the anemone in question, a haddoni I believe, just your normal Petco carpet, no special color.

ed, thats a great looking carpet! i remember how your last carpet eventually ate both of its clownfish.

glad to see your tank coming along!

I gave that one to you I think with the clowns, they always buried them selves into the mouth.

Oh and did you notice that its a 40br and not a 20L anymore? Got plans for a 120 come christmas, possibly 180 or 210 depending if I buy a house.

Check out the birdsnest and other sps frags that I got from upscales last year. The bn is taking off, but the others are growing quite slow.

It wont be for a while. I might be moving and it would be alot easier to get rid of it before I move so I dont have to worry about keeping it alive in the move. With the move I am planning to drill the bottom, or I might just upgrade to a 120.

Do NOT use a razor blade to detach its foot!!! I used a plastic spatula to get a large green haddoni off the bottom of the glass with very good results.
Just proceed very slowly being careful to not to damage the anemone's foot.
