I realized I belong.
First is my temporary tank that was leaking from the factor bulkhead, so I just used a towel to contain the puddle...you just need to top off more often. Also when you can't find anything to hang your lights from then just use some chairs. (lights are not pictured)

So you like the Rubbermaid so much that you reuse it but this time you throw in a hot pink storage bin, a milk crate and why not add a half a 5 gal bucket as a return chamber.

I like destroying perfectly good items too. From this picture of my brand new stand you can see where I cut out holes for the reef ready overflow that didn't match, and you can also see the hole I cut in the factor support before adding braces.

My canopy is by far the ugliest part of the setup currently. I have closet hanger brackets holding the MH's and a crooked PVC frame for the LED's and a piece of cardboard with posters on one side and insulated foil on the other.

See how much heat you can get in a small area?

I unfortunately am not satisfied with any of my "rigged" items and will be fixing all of them...at some point.

This thread is great, I don't have anything too ghetto, except for one of my return pumps the return tubing I had was a bit too big to fit. So using a hand full of PVC pieces of varying diameters, and large amounts of hot glue/super glue I managed to make it all fit together.

Hello gr1mm,

CAUTION!!!
I had once a person also looking after the 660g hotel tank I take care of installed a filter sock on the edge of the sump tank as you have done. When it was saturated with detritus (which happened to take place during the night, wenn nobody was there), the water went over the edges of the sock and a lot of the water flooded the room....
So I reccomend always to fix the sock at a lower level than the sump tanks upper limit and well away from the edges, so in the event of a saturated sock with overruning water, this ends up in the sump and not outside!

regards

Markus

Wow.... BEST THREAD EVER.... I finally got through the whole thread and had to add one of my ghetto rigs
DSC01046.jpg

The apartment we lived in had to spray for bugs or something like that so we covered the tank with alot of blankets to keep out the fumes.... I put to many on so the leg broke off the light.
Now the leg is held up with JB weld, 2 paper clips, and aluminum foil...... made me feel like MacGyver lol

I actually had it happen before, so i keep changing the socks often now, i have four socks but i do need to make a new holder to hang just below the edge because like you said, somehow this takes place during the night when no one is looking :hmm3:

Hello gr1mm,

so it should be published as a warning for everybody not to do it the way you presented it :-(

Definitely shouldn't be done this way, is my ghetto rig and if you dont have the time or energy to keep cleaning it in order to keep it from spilling, the you MUST find another ghetto way to do it :D

MacGyver style no doubt, ghetto MacGyver hahaha.

Don't know how I missed this thread.

Some of it made me lol and think back about some of the things I have done over the years.

 To all of the great Ideas and innovative use of stuff.

Thought I would include a couple of pics of a skimmer intake strainer I built a couple of years back that has worked well for me. It's plugged on the bottom and stands the pump off the bottom of the sump at just the right height to make it easy put back on the skimmer after cleaning.

Here are some quick Ghetto fabs. Some I have not done write for yet. Ask or flame away. I have though skin. I normally do some testing first and then start building. sometimes i will redo it before I'm finished. sometimes I wait a couple of days. Just depends on if it works and if I like it or not.
