Ghetto Rig

can't top orange cones, french dip and beer case hoods, but I thought I'd throw a ghetto "chiller" in.

Here's my Media Reactor. I'm running both GFO and GAC in it. Powered by a MJ-400 :fun4:

You can't tell from the pic, but there's a slow, light tumble. It's not uniform, but it seems to get the job done.

Fantastic Thread. Got several ideas to try!
Here's my Ghetto Frag Rig, that is still growing like urban blight!
A barrel, any way you slice it!

May as well stick a refugium on it, with mangroves

Thats a really sweet idea for a frag rack. unfortunately you may have to remove that skimmer, its just to nice for the ghetto thread.:spin3:

How about that I first started with a CRC Urchin that I modded to a Remora? :hammer:

It all works anyway. Growth is "out the barrel!"

Love the rusty hose clamp in the sump as well!
Really gets them frags growing!!! :D

No need to dose iron!

I wish I had taken a picture of an old 29G settup I used to have. Lost a razor blade in the settup process, and it ended up in the sandbed.... Under a pile of rocks....pasted to the glass. By the time I tore it down years later it had totally disintegrated and actually left the glass discolored.

+1 one on Yardboy's settup. WAY too pretty.

IO bucket with John Guest bulkhead and valve hooked by tube up to the float valve. Filled with filtered kalk water for topoff.
Rusty clamp was very temporary early on, since replaced by zip tie, but if it makes it officially ghetto..............
Few items of system I forgot:
250W MH magnetic ballast in a cracker tin

Man I love this thread... As soon as we move house I'll be able to setup my ghetto 125 Gal system that Ive been slowly amassing parts for.
Im hoping to be able to incorporate as many ideas from this thread as possible!

ok this is not the most ghetto i have seen but i think it has a place in this thread.

T5 light propped up with plastic cups and it works tank temp went down 2degs. i need to come up with a fan system now.

Would the kalk cause problem to the float valve (cal deposit causing valve not to close completely)?

Of course! That's why it's ghetto.
After several sessions with a piece of wire to clear it, I changed my dosing system to this local lab garage sale peristaltic pump with duel orange juice jugs and baked baking soda additives. Note also the skimmate collection container using another juice jug. Hey, I live in Florida.

Not as getto as every one else's set ups but I think it works. I use rain gutter guard over the back of my BioCube 14 to stop my fish from jumping in back. Before this I was using blue sponges but they got dirty fast.

My appologies for Photobucket being retarded.

Here are the pics again:

I have done that and for some reason the second half of all my strings dim

and a tip, if you take wire cutters and cut off the end of the light, it will shine straight down better.
