Ghetto Rig

Take a cheap mini fridge from a garage sale and drill two holes in it, run a maxijet pump with the line running through the fridge, boom chiller

so you are basically running a tube into and out of the fridge? does that have enough time to cool the water significantly?

This has been around a while. Using a dorm fridge in this manner will destroy it. The compressor is not meant to run continuously, which is what will happen if u have sufficient number if coils in it.

but it works for a while. Ghetto isn't always permanent. Also, you can run it for a few hours on and then off. It won't be as good at reducing the temp, but it will be better than nothing.

A better option is to mod an old window air conditioner.

First bump of 2017!!!!!! Woohooo!!!!

First bump of 2017!!!!!! Woohooo!!!!

Let me prefacce this by saying wow to 50 pages, I wish I would have saw this when I first started this reefing adventure. Well here ya go.
Plexiglass sliding doors open and far right is macro algae reactor (built from old *** skimmer), low front is refugium w/ mangroves and algae scrubber, top front is first stage of overflow w/ a box of 1"x8"x8" blue mesh filter stuff, filled w/ lr rubble.
Guess I need to get back on my ghetto rigging. Btw I'm thankful for dollar a gallon days.

Someone bring back the pic of the stove heating element in a sump that was in this thread from years past. Can't find it now. That was ghettofabulous!!

Not real ghetto, but probably a little HAHA

My Apex autofeeder is on my sump, it dumps into a funnel that feeds into a piece of PVC pipe...

The PVC pipe enters the water in the return section that rests on top of my return pumps strainer, this allows my food to float and be contained in the pipe, as it absorbs water and eventually sinks it gets sucked directly into the return pump and then distributed into the DT...

Next is my DIY 5gal bucket waterfall ATS that runs a mini duroso that feeds my 20gal fuge...

I did something very similar. I have mine mounted to a reducer. The pipe leads to a cross tee and has a notch taken out at the water line so that the food gets actively sucked into the return.

Nice! Looks like I need a reducer, never thought of that

As you can see by the sticker I never removed 🤣[emoji23]🤣[emoji23], it's a 4"-2" reducer. A 3" reducer was too small. Also, I drilled a small recess into it where the AFS screw thingamajig sits. I didn't want it to tip up as I snugged it down.

I finally am adding to this thread. I have a 1inch thick tank and that presents a challenge w powerheads. The cost of legit tunze magnets is 120 per set so I improvised w the original magnets ... sorry pics are sideways

This is my ghetto sump drain to reduce the bubbles. Its a plastic cereal container. I put a glass divider in the middle as a baffle and holes at the bottom of the other compartment. I could put a bag of carbon and a filter pad before it goes to my skimmer section of the sump.

You could also see my ghetto gravity fed ato on a piece of plywood to increase the water level. The reservoir for my ato is a plastic container inside a separate stand i made.

So I was asked to throw this here. This is my holdover/growout system. I need a place to keep things while my apartment is being renovated.

does a swirling tub of algae / settling filter / air injector count?

I'm also feeding it back to my fish... does that count as cheap or ghetto?
