GHL Mitras Club

@Tremelle...I have 3 lamps over an SPS dominant tank that is 62" long and 26" wide. I recently took one of my units down (working on a mounting solution with my acrylic guy) for a couple of days. I was impressed with the light spread over 62" with just two units. In other words, I think you will be satisfied with just two units over the dimensions you posted above.

Considering getting one of these lights, will 1 unit be enough for my tank
48x20x24? I have a center brace in the middle of the tank.

Dont have the money for two units :-(

This will depend on you rock work and what you want to keep at the ends. If you do a bonsai scape with soft or LPS on the ends, should work nicely. You will want to mount the unit parallel @ roughly 8" AWL.

thanks for you quick reply. I have attached a pic of my current scape here..Looking to redo my scape (in my to do list)

Eferna, if you go with one unit you will get shading on the ends of the tank and may find it tough to keep every coral happy unless you move it under the light. Two units would be ideal.

My Mitras is lighting 36" x 24" without a problem and seems like it could stretch to 40" x 24".

@reefrockerlive- i have a center brace over my tank and im sure that the par output from the center lights will reduce drastically. Does anyone have a center brace and how does it affect the par?

A Center brace will greatly reduce light in general unless you're very diligent about keeping it clean (and dry) 24/7.

I don't think I'd be happy with the center brace killing my light output.

If you mounted the unit long ways front to back (like this || ) then the center brace might have minimal effect because it would be between 2 light "pucks".

If you mounted it long ways left to right ( like this = ) the brace would be directly under 2 light pucks.

Here's an example of what the underside of the Mitras looks like

I am not sure if that would work cause my brace is about 6" across so depending on how far apart the puck from each other..it would however be much better than placing them left to right.

Left to right they are 2 1/4" apart (inside to inside) so it looks like a 6" brace is going to be a bit much. Outside to outside they are 6" apart.

I think you'd be much happier going with a pair of lights. Don't give up on the Mitras... I've yet to hear anyone say, "I wish I hadn't of gotten the Mitras".... I know of a couple of people who are trying to sell very NEW lights because they went Mitras.

Anyone can produce a nice LED fixture or DIY for that matter but it boils down to quality of build and control software. Mitras checks both boxes over anything I've seen thus far

Couldn't have said it better myself...this was hands down the best reefing purchase that I've ever made. The response that my corals have had under this light already is amazing and I've only had them a short while.

+1 Totally agree.

Nobody has seen my tank since the switch. I'm keeping it top secret. My Ora Pearlberry and purple tabling acro (don't have specific id...not a name junkie) have had the largest growth spurt already. I can't wait for their jaws to drop when I unveil my tank to them in a few weeks. Friends think I'm nuts...I'll just let the tank speak for itself at that point and get a kick out of watching their jaws drop. :D

Well I have seen with my own eyes what led lighting can do and yes the colors of the corals are amazing. Here are my concerns though.
1. How long do the LEDs keep there spectrum
2. How much do the LEDs cost to replace on this fixture
3. Does anyone think the price will drop any time soon?
4. Will corals sps hold there color over the course of time and if so can anyone show long term results.

Sorry for so many questions but before I spend my money need to know if its worth it.
Thanks

1. N/A
2. N/A
3. Don't think so.
4. Only time will tell, but the results thus far are encouraging

For the the lifetime of the Diode, they do not fade away they just go out ;)

2. How much do the LEDs cost to replace on this fixture
Unlikely you will ever have to the average life of a diode is 50,000 hours but they tend to go on and on. The fixture is user replaceable modular, and the LED PCB's are not the expensive part.

3. Does anyone think the price will drop any time soon?
Nope its already artificially low, it is very hard to keep it at this price as the Euro is rising

4. Will corals sps hold there color over the course of time and if so can anyone show long term results.
As above time will tell but it is rare for a coral to lose colour when it gains colour from a light change.

I'm in the process of a 178 gallon (66"x26"x24") build. Will probably choose between the mitras and new radions.

Given my dimensions and primarily sps, should I go with 3 mitras or would 2 do the trick running parallel with the aquarium?
