GHL Mitras Club

I havent seem any Belkins with BlueTooth...??? All of the ones I see are the Wifi over USB adapters...:crazy1:

Hahahaha, sorry i said blue tooth, i meant wifi.....sorry

Something like this will work, type it into amazon
D-Link DAP-1522 Extreme 4-Port Gigabit Dual-Band Wireless-N Bridge/Access Point

@ Clownin Aroun,
Forgive me as even though I am a tech major I dont see how that Bridge would work?
It dosent have a USB input and the Mitras will not allow access to its wireless settings, which are RF like the vortechs if I am correct. Also I am just wondering if the Mitras is "smart enough" to communicate over bluetooth dongle to a donge installed in a PC?

I'm not "techie" but I was under the impression USB was USB was USB. So if the Mitras was able to communicate to a USB cable (connected to a laptop/PC) it would (or should) also be able to communicate to a USB dongle. As far as the Mitras is concerned all it has to see is the USB connection and then something on the other side saying "Hey there.... what's happening? Wanna connect with the software over here?"

That's over simplifying it yes but at least in my backwards thinking head it works LOL!

This of course is assuming the "dongle" can simulate a simple "dump" USB connection and not require any special drivers or firmware to work. But then again isn't that pretty much what a bridge/access point does to begin with?

With the Radion you plug in the USB from the radion into the belkin and the belkin connects to your wifi and you can get it through your wifi a=on your computer. I found it first on youtube by a user. I dont think i can post a direct link but the video title is Wireless Seneye With Belkin Home Base and his name is shardino.

If i am wrong about this working with the Mitras, my mistake!

For wifi yes... for a usb no... their was a wireless usb standard that came out, but it didnt work so well and was dropped in favor of bluetooth and wifi connections. usb requires a steady data stream and cannot tolerate the drop outs inherent to wireless connections. So a software error correction program must be used by the "dongle". They used to make these as well, but have stopped as wifi became more prevelant. Its a shame we sont have access the the Mitras wifi settings, the usb wifi adapters are a dime a dozen... I might have to buy and try a pair of Bluetooth dongles. Does the mitras even have true wifi or is it just RF raido freq like the vortechs/raidons ...

EDIT: typeing while Clowin was posting... this post was @ bigal2007

Just found this on the GHL website...

"With onboard 2.4GHz wireless the built in controller of one Mitras can become the master unit for a suite of other Mitras lights set to slave mode."

Will or why will GHL not release the IP settings of the Mitras ??? :headwally:

Are you happy with the Modular LED rail system? Can you comment on the look/finish? I am considering getting one myself. Thanks!

If you are talking about the custom Mitras Rack from Modular LED.ca I ordered one as well. I ordered the 8" version. GHL recommends ~7.9" ATW (20cm) and the 8" fixture would place the bottom of the lamp roughly 8.75 inches above the water line in my tank. That's where I have them hanging now and it is working well.

Ahh that makes sense. Oh well.. it was worth a shot... granted it was a long shot but worth a try none the less.

Thanks for the knowledge :)

It turned out not to be a good option for me. I am thinking about a custom length rack from 8020.net or just building something I can hang directly from the ceiling that looks nice.

i plan to jump from Radion on to Mitras . having a few questions :

1. how does Mitras programming work?
2. does it work on mac ?
3. does it have fan issue like Mitras ?
4. is it able to connect profilux III?
5. how many unit do i need for my tank ? 4x2x2ft ?
6. how high i need to hang the lights?

1. how does Mitras programming work?
Through the supplied software which is of course free.
2. does it work on mac ?
Yes using Virtual machine
3. does it have fan issue like Mitras ?
Mitras has abosolute no fan issues what so ever
4. is it able to connect profilux III?
This will be rolled out this year
5. how many unit do i need for my tank ? 4x2x2ft ?
2 units
6. how high i need to hang the lights?[/QUOTE]
12" and above for your depth or lower if you keep the brightness down

Are you coming from gen 1, 2 or pro?

The software really could use some work and OS X support would be nice. Also, for the cost of these fixtures, wifi should be a given. It would also be nice to be able to compose a lighting scheme without being connected to the fixture.

When will we see these changes?

is there graphs that can be imported like Radion ?

+1

The mac part is not an issue for me as I am a win/android user, however to me it is just stupid to already have a 2.4 ghz wifi raido built into every mitras so that they can communicate with each other... but not allow the user access to the config settings so that they can connect them to their own wifi network !!!

I was so excited about these fixtures when they were in pre-order state. I had 4 Radions (gen 1) in my shopping cart, while doing reaserch on them I came across the Mitras and pre-ordered on the first wave of shipments to the U.S, however since getting my hands on the lamp it still impresses me in its shear light output, but the control software is not even user freindly in any way, not even for me and I can code software.

Then the lack of access to the wifi settings, just so you can buy an adapter at a later date from them...
Upon reading the specs this was a major factor for me as it states... 2.4 ghz wifi built in... they dont tell you only for the lamps to communicate to each other till you read the fine print...

All in all I love my 3 Mitras, they are GREAT lights...however with the correct software they could be AWSOME lights...

If the Raidon Pro was out when I purchaced my Mitras month's ago it would of been a very tough choice, however the Raidon Pro still has its own issues to deal with...

"...End Rant..." :deadhorse1:

The wifi is coming but nothing in this industry happens overnight with such things, the importance as always is to get the product out there, the toys always come second.

Take into account the nearest competitor also has no wifi

Mac - not many manufacturers will spend the $50,000 plus and go through the approval hoops required to build such a platform especially when virtual machine works effectively. The nearest competitor also does not have mac platform.

The upcoming wifi, will it be an adapter that we have to purchace... or a firmware update to allow users control of the built in 2.4 ghz wifi radio?

I have had my Mitras since October of 2012 and GHL still does not have a offical Rail kit or wifi...

it will be radio frequency to the break out box from there it will be wireless.

Congrats on being one of the early adopters, I am sure you have seen some great changes with the lamp on the tank in this time.

Updates will be posted on the support forum www.profiluxsupport.com as and when accessories are launched during this year coming.
