hi Aaron, are you using 100% High Output now? or High Efficiency only? I was running 100% High Efficiency but switch to 70% High Output for few days only. any suggestion? thanks.

Yeah, been running high output for a few months now at 100%. What I do is after upping the power add in some cloud cover and gently reduce the darkening over a week or so. You could do that.

Hmmm, so what makes the GHL Mitras so much better the other LED's on the market?
Can someone tell me what I would need for a 65 gallon SPS tank? 36x18x24 deep.

I can tell you what the GHL has thats different.
The GHL has specially developed metal coated reflectors, it does not use optics, these alone took two years to develop alone in a leading German lighting lab. The reflectors allow for the LED's to converge in a manner that creates a true mix of the LED's colour instead of separating them. You will get no disco ball effect. GHL chose LED's that give you the right colours to match that of MH for example.
Then there is linear dimming technology only seen in Mitras. An LED units output is typically digital, but digital signals are not smooth, so when you go to dim a digital driven LED you will physically see step by step dim points, watch the light at low level and you will see it step down to the next level. The Mitras employs a digital to analogue signal converter (patented) that smooths out this signal so you get perfectly smooth transitions, this allows for smooth effects such as rolling cloud cover.
For your tank you would need just one fixture.

Very interesting. I can understand how a lens has to gather up all the light and focus it. This may have been the cause or one of the factors leading to the disco effect.
I did see many led's at the RAP show recently and did not see any disco effect at all.
I can understand how the metal coating may help. It seems to me the square layout of the pucks would also help with mixing.
How far apart is each puck from each other? How long is the unit?

reefmutt, can you please interpret clouds setting a little? I don't understand what those settings do except the darkening setting. The manual doesn't say anything about cloud setting. I think Mitras has a poor User's manual. I could play around with the settings and see what they do, but it will save me time if you can pinpoint me.

I have to agree with you that the manual is extremely unclear on many points... The cloud programming being one of them.
I had to 'play around' with the settings as well and quite honestly, I'm not 100% sure what I did or how changing the numbers actually affected the frequency of the clouds...
Because I am all Mac at home, doing programming requires me to borrow a buddy's laptop
headwalls so I haven't played with settings a lot..I have a pretty much continuous ~20% raising and lowering of the light intensity throughout the day. It's sometimes subtle and sometimes noticeable. I like it because I think it allows you to increase general light intensity without as much worry of really blasting the corals as they get intermittent breaks in the brightness when the lights dim..

Exactly, I have no idea how those numbers affect clouding pattern. I did play with the settings a bit but I couldn't figure it out clouding behavior. Im wondering if the clouding will shorten the life of the led's with them ramping up and down all day long or not.

Totally agree about the manual. I've had the pendant for about a week and like it so far but a well written manual would be very useful. The leaflet that ships with the unit is useless.
I'd also like to see a library for illumination configs, including acclimatization.

Yes this is correct the price for now is $999 but this can only be held for a short while as the euro is rising, the normal mrsp is $1,199 but we are trying to hold the $999 for everyone at least until xmas.
I have already had a few people send me messages asking when it will drop further from $999 or could our dealers do a deal, this categorically is not going to happen, simply the maths are not and will not ever be there to make that happen. So I would jump at the $999 while its there becuase I am confident by the new year it will be back at the original price.
