GHL Mitras Club

right now I am in high output an running at 85% I hope to get to 100 % in a few months as my tank is deep. But from what i see my clam on the sand bed is getting more blue by the day and its mantel is not over extended It looks perfect so I guess the light is enough for now.

Hi all,new around here so bare with me while i find my way.
Looking at starting up a new tank,( old one 5x2x2 shut down due to a moving), new tank 8x3x2.
Question: looking at 5 mitras over this tank, ( already have 2 from previous set up) who thinks this is overkill?. I'm thinking this will give me great coverage to put my SPS anywhere in the tank.

Each one covers a 36 x 36 area 7 fixtures is way to much.so are you looking to keep Sps or a mixed reef? By the way welcome to Reefcentral.

Thanks, was looking at 5, but will now go with 4. Looking at keeping SPS and hoping that the mitras will do the job. The thought behind going more was in my 5x2x2, i had the 2 units but my SPS was browning on the underside.

Not so fast guys, the answer depends on how high you are going to hang them. My dims are 84 x 28 x 24 @ 20cm. 3 were okay but now with 4 it's awesome. I found with 3 6100's I had to crank up the intensity to cover the tank which fried most things directly under the lamps. With 4 units I can back off the output without sacrificing coverage and I can sit on the couch without retina damage watching the tank ;) these fixtures will not give you the spread a 8 or 10 tube T5 or MH with proper reflectors will. No bulb changes and less power consumption yes but same spread no. With a 36" depth I would mount 5 in a ||||| configuration. HTH :)

While I'm here, please provide link for ordering 6200 retrofit kits, thanks :)

Sounds good to me but I am loving the 6100hv right now. Maybe when things start looking really good I will upgrade just to find something else to break. Lol I did see the 6200hv In pics and it's almost identical, but they are more blue and that's just the way I like my project. I have adjusted my project I little more and will post it soon.

I would tend to agree with this.. Especially if sps is your thing.. Better overall coverage and you can run them at a lower intensity..

Thank's for the replies everyone.... I will be buying 3, 6200's and 2 upgrade's for my 6100's. Lights will be hung 20cm above water level.:D
