Thanks guys, I am getting more and more excited to try these out. I too am wondering how they compare to Radiums with growth and color.

I have ran one unit augmenting 3 400 W radiums. There is a perfect blend of color without any "spotlight" effect. After six months, I've decided to go all Mitras. I'll get the other 4 fixtures next week. Too bad you aren't local, and you could come by and check it out for yourself.

I have been doing my own experiment

this was taken a few days agao

Servo, did you create your own lighting profile to get the Mitras to look like the radiums?
They were my favorite bulb for a long time!

Rot knee and others

I see that your last photo shows the coral growing not up but some of the fingers starting to turn horizontal. This is also happening to mine. Does this mean I have the lights too bright or something else? Some of my corals have done a 90 degree turn!

Thanks to all in advance!

It is possible yes, corals grow towards the brighter light to my understanding. Turn the light down and see if the growth pattern changes.

That's a great observation and question........would love to know the answer.

Sorry Michael I am a bit confused! If they grow toward the brighter light, wouldn't they be growing up and not horizontal?

I believe what he was saying is that corals (like flowers) usually grow towards the light (usually up or facing in the direction the light is coming) but in this case, the lights may be a little too bright for them, thus they are turning away from the light! So he suggests turning the lights intensity down a little to see if they start to grow "up" again!

Correct me if i am wrong Michael.......don't mean to speak for you, lol, but i though the same thing!

Ah ok got cha! Thanks for the clarification!

That's a good question shaggss. I've always thought it had something to do with the individual characteristics of the species and flow (in addition to lighting). I have a Green Slimmer and ORA Bird of Paradise near the Red Dragon that are all growing straight towards the light.

I've been tempted to lower might light output and run them in High Efficiency mode but I'm hesitant to make any changes at this time. I recently dialed back on the Red and HyperRed colors and I very happy with the growth and color as of late. If you figure it out please let me know.:artist:

Yep this is what I am saying, they are running for shade in my view ;)

I've had many SPS grow horizontal under various lights. I later realized that FLOW plays a large part on coral grow patterns as well as light. Do you have any strong flow going in the same direction as the coral growth by any chance Rodney?

Hi BigAl

Now that you mension it, my corals maybe "reaching" for the flow as they seem to be growing towards it! I'll turn down the lights a tad and see if they change direction....

The Red Dragon is situated to the left of my DT about 18" from an MP40. So, it is actually growing in the direction of the flow. I do have another set of MP40's on the opposite side of the tank 5+ feet away.

It sounds like both of you may be seeing the same thing as in the coral is actually growing "upstream" against the flow.

What is the percent of each led you guys are running ? I am not that happy with the color on my tank.i wanna see it more blue but I have to dim all other LEDs to 8-15 percent.then what is the purpose of them if they are beryl on. Need your opinion

Thanks
