ghstrider's custom 150 build thread

I decided on adding a 57 watt AquaUV to the system as well... I have a UV on my current tank and have always been happy with water clarity and the lack of disease in my setup. I know theres been a huge debate back and forth about it but I think the benefits outweigh any potential downside. Anyone else have experience with this or a similar unit?

eddie..thats exactly what I am using. Its worked great so far....as far as functionality goes. As far as effectiveness goes, who knows? lol. But I agree....I think the benefits outweigh any downside to not having it. I do think they help more with water clarity than with disease.

No worries Marvin... I hope to start tearing down Friday nite and building Saturday so if you can swing by then that would be awesome. Just let me know if u can make it! Jgoal u too if you can make it id love to have the help.

Well, did the teardown today and it went very well thanks to Marvin (nivram) who came by to lend a helping hand and my neighbors who lurk on here as well. The old tank is no more and the new tank is sitting full of water at my neighbors leak testing. I also did some planning for tomorrows buildup and bought several pieces i'll need to get that head start. Im very lucky to have friends that are willing to share part of their weekend with me setting up my new dream tank. Jgoal is coming by tomorrow to help and im gonna need it.

I'll post pics once I get the tank on the stand...

jess, reefsavvy is off 132 ave and like 128 st in the warehouse district. pm me if you need his number or just google him and his site and info should pop up.

A big thanks to Jorge for hanging with me all day and helping me put together this setup. I would have finished plumbing if not for an issue with the bulkhead leaking. I did get alot done and thanks to Jorge and Marvin im on the right track. Thanks guys!

I'll post pics of the setup when its a bit more further along... I will post a pic of the AI LEDs custom mounted to my canopy from my iphone...

Heres with only the center light installed....

This tank is going to be amazing! It looks so sweet. Glad I was able to help out even if we couldn't get it all done. Thanks to you as well Eddie.

Looking forward to more on tuesday.

Was very impressed with what I saw the other day. Can't wait to see it develop over time, and of course contribute to the biological diversity of your reef. The hawkfish is chilling, what a cool fish. Thx!

Jorge, all I can say for all your help is

Jessp thanks for the compliments.... Jose (carpenter) does amazing work and im trying to convince him to do some stands for those interested in high end woodwork.

Carlos, whats up brother!! Havent heard from you in a while man... You gotta try to swing by homie and check out the setup.

Rob, I know the hawk is in a good place and im sure hes looking after that setosa for me...

Today's Update

Today's Update

I spent the morning with my buddy running around town buying all kinds of odds and ends to complete the plumbing and to my surprise it all worked out! I found all the pieces I needed and when I plumbed it I got no leaks! (leak test was done without water pressure just water sitting in the pipes)

After several hours of plumbing, cutting, glueing, sawing, etc... I came up with this

Then we did rallied the guys to carry the tank to the house from my neighbors garage to place it on its final resting place. Heres a picture of the back plumbing of the tank and a front view. *Note that the doors are not on the stand as they tend to get in the way during the build.

Hopefully tomorrow the tank will have a freshwater run in the a.m. and then I will start getting the rockwork and sand ready and call for the water delivery around lunch time. The afternoon and evening plans will consist of getting the electrical done for all the parts (apex, powerheads, lighting).

More updates and pics tomorrow...

sweeeeeeeet.....cant wait....by the time I get there tomorrow this thing will be a blown out reef tank (although for your sake you should hope I can get there earlier...lol..)

See ya.
