ghstrider's custom 150 build thread

Awesome. Make sure you do a power outage test. You don't want that Check valve on the return failing on you.

Its up and running!!! Rockwork looks sick (at least i think so)... I will post pics later as im here with jgoal trying to setup the apex and the vdm module for the led lights. Right now the tank is running skimmerless with the tunze 6105s and the small tunze wavebox. All the snails and shrimp are in as well as corals minus a few. Jceballos clownfish are in the sump temporarily til next week.

More to come!

Just woke up.....I'm tired! Lol.

This thing looks amazing. Awesome rockwork... The AI lights are awesome.

Can't wait till you get the VDM module figured out. What a PITA!!!!!

Keep me posted today.

Got the Tunze Osmolator up and running... This thing is awesome. gonna post an overall pic in a minute!

Thanks Jgoal for all the help last night and this morning. Dont know where id be without the hand youve thrown this way. Hopefully I can repay you soon by doing some aquascaping in your setup with you soon.

Heres a quick overall.... pardon the disaster as I am still trying to get the apex working right before I start organizing and cleaning up.

Are you putting that right where the old one was? It is going to be amazing. I don't know if I can handle the wait any longer. LOL

Nice build Eddie, my only concern will be in the pluming there are three areas that I would re-examin if I was you.
The uv connections in/out both face downward, IMO that has potential to trap air inside the unit and burn the pvc.
The UV outlet should have been plumb to the return line, this is a high flow uv and you will get a lot more advantage if the clean water goes to your main tank instead of back to the sump.
The last concern is the manifold that you have for the fluidize reactors, you are using a barb connector with a nylon clam, the valve is the one that comes with the reactor, This type of connectors and valves are not intended for high pressure and it is likely to fail or burst, you should add a pvc bal or gate valve to lower the pressure and be able to close it with out concerns.
Good luck!

Thanks Rogger for the ideas... So you think I should make entire return flow thru the UV and then out to the tank? I just thought the slower I ran the flow the more it will kill. Mind you im still running alot of flow thru it (valve wide open) probably about 500 gph id guess or somewhere close to that.

As for the phosban reactor, you think it will be a problem even with a valve regulating flow between the reactor and return? I also put stainless hose clamps on all the barbs that connect the return to the reactor. Let me know what u think and ill take some closeups in a few.

You can go two ways, keep the same loop and just join the outlet to your existing return line, or do your whole return through the UV. This unit is made for high flow and could handle approx 1100 gal/hr without loosing much strength.
I would prefer to keep the loop but modify it so that the outlet faces up or sideways to allow for the air to be pushed out, this will also allow you to not have to shut your tank down when you change the bulb or do any maintenance.
Regarding the reactor, the issue is not the pressure going into the reactors, the problem will happen when you close or adjust that plastic valve the valve inlet will holding the pressure of your pump and that pressure will be contained against the plastic valve and the rubber hose with barb connectors. This type of pressure will sooner or later be too much for that valve.
I recommend that you change that to a pex valve which is sold at lowes and it looks like a john guess valve but bigger, this valves are made to handle pressure
You will need something like this

And a valve like this

Well, I must give you a big thanks Rogger... It APPEARS that the small leak is gone and because you convinced me to take it all apart I discovered another small leak on the pump intake. I basically undid all the threaded fittings to the pump and bulkhead that were leaking and even the one I wasnt sure of and put extra teflon halfway and then loaded it with that teflon compound you recommended. Then I tightened it all down with a channel lock down to the end of the thread til it locked in place.

Now I gotta start cleaning up... Oh and I did the pvc ball valve coming out of the bushing to the phosban and it looks like its also fixed.

Thanks again
Eddy

After much deliberation and speaking to people with much more knowledge and experience in this than I, I decided to add my qt'd fish to the main display. The Personifer and the Multicolor are in and exploring their new surroundings. Im SOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!

All the electronics are pretty much installed (ATO, Wavebox, powerheads, doser, UV, TLF reactor, Heater) with exception of the Apex controller which I sent back to neptune and am receiving a new unit this week after a malfunction. Once thats up and running again then its only missing the one AI module that will arrive sometime end of this week beginning of next.

Im near completion and its starting to feel real.... I lost a few colonies of beautiful sps so i'll be frag hunting soon but right now my priorities are finishing the setup and making sure my fish do well in their new habitat.

Oh and Marvin... I won the bet! I lasted over the weekend before putting in fish!!! Its Tuesday!
