Giant cup on the way out?

My giant cup mushroom kind of shrunk up and started "spewing" all this brown thread-like discharge from his center operculum. Any idea what might be happening? Is it croaking on me? Thanks for the help.

Maybe no response was a good thing because it seems to be doing just fine. It shrunk up last night but by morning was just fine. Not sure what the stuff was coming out of it but if anyone wants to chime in for shits and giggles, be my guest! Thanks.

Don't feel bad. I got the same response to a lighting question I had a couple of weeks ago.

Sometimes they just slip through the cracks.....if I knew anything about it I would help you but alas.....newbie here to advanced reef tanks.....too many years with FW.

The brown stuff was more than likely zooxanthellae , the symbiotic algae that grows in most coral. The mushroom must of got stressed some how.

Thanks kingfisher62 for the information. It is still alive but is not "acting" like its old self. Everything else in the system is doing fine so it is possible one of the fish irritated it.
