Giant Spearer Raptorial Appendage

A few months ago I captured a large male Lysiosquillina maculata in 3 meters of water off Lizard Island. The animal was used for our research, but I did save one of the raptorial appendages and photographed it next to a ruler. I have seen larger Lysiosquillina, but this was the largest I have captured in several years. It measured a total length of 12,5 inches (32 cm). His mate was about the same size. The burrow was 4.5 inches in diameter.

  I would hate to be hit by that appendage, might take off my finger!!!!

When a mantis reaches about 7+ inches, it rarely has any predators right???

I am not sure wether that is pushing me away from a spearer, of drawing me in more.
Nurse:It looks like your hand has been in a meat grinder, what happened?
Me: My shpimp got hold of me.
Nurse: Wow,... OK were going to do a toxicology screen...

It certainly caused me to pull back a bit when I pulled it out of its burrow. After I managed to get it into a goodie bag, it managed to chew through the nylon mesh, but I got it in the boat before it could escape. Still, I would rather catch a large Lysiosquillina than a really big Odonotodactylus or Hemisquilla.
