Giesemann Lighting Club.

Hi guys, been reading the last 4 pages trying to get some info on the geiseman neptune series. Marine Depot has one 48" for $1099. trying to get a little info before ordering. Anyone hear of this series? good Price? etc....thx

Hello Pro's :) !

I'm thinking about buying an Infinity 2x150w, 4x54 T5 för my tank. I want to swap the ballasts to my philips electronic wich are dimmable. Is this easy to do? The ballasts are external?

I also wonder about the glare from the hqi's, is it much reduced compered to other brands and models? My girlfriend hates my HQi ramp from odyssea. Cant use it, the room becomes to bright in the seeling and walls, down in the tank is ok ;). Is the infinity good in that area?

Faltaren,
I'm not expert, but the ballasts and lights on the Giesemann lights has a proprietary plug coming out of them that are not compatible with regular ballasts. So, I think you would have to modify your ballast to accept this new plug. I don't know if the dimmable thing works with these lights either. Hopefully someone with electronics experience can answer.

As for the glare, that is one of the nice things about these lights; it's much much improved over any other hanging light I've had. I think your girlfriend would approve.

i have a infinity moonlight fixture, 2 250 14.5 megachrome was fine for about 3 years. then the board went up in flames. took over a week get a replacement. lost a about 5 nice corals and a two of my maxima clams. other then that the fixture is nice to look at.

Is this light Giesemann-Infiniti-72-inch-metal-halide-3x250w-DE-and-4-80w-T5-Silver will be good enough to cover a 8 foot long by 30" wide tank ? Thanks.

I'm not sure about the length but, given the choice, the 72" spectra would be a better option for the 30" depth (front to back). That said, I bought an infinity for a 30" deep tank I'm planning to setup in the next couple of months and don't anticipate any major coverage problems. A spectra probably would be better though.

What am I missing?

What am I missing?

The 72 inch Infiniti is $2400----------has 3x250MH and 4x80watt T-5's
The 72 inch Spectra is $2900---------same just a different hood
72 Infiniti Moonlight is $3900---------same but has a computer to & controllable moonlighting

Am I wrong on any of this info?
If not how do I justify the additional cost of the Spectra, and or Infiniti with Moonlight?

I'm not hating, I love the look of the fixture! I just have no idea how the price on each unit is justified? What am I missing here?

The Spectra has significantly larger (read better) reflectors than the Infiniti and uses single-ended mogul-base bulbs instead of double-ended bulbs. The ballasts are probably different as well (although I believe both are electronic). The Spectra is also a wider fixture and seems better suited to deep tanks (front-to-back). And the Spectra has the possibility of using 400W bulbs (with the right ballast). I think that's what justifies the price difference.

The Moonlight is a different beast altogether, the most notable difference being dimmable T5 ballasts and a computer controller for lighting condition simulations. Personally I couldn't justify the higher cost of the Moonlight, but the Spectra makes sense if you have a deeper tank.

I've had my Spectra for 3 1/2 years now and I still love it. It's a sleek looking fixture that is easy to work with. For example, I ordered my fixture with 250W MH and I wanted to switch out to 400W. All I had to do was match up the International color coded wires with the standard colors in the US. It was very simple and I even reused the plug in adapter.

Here is my fixture after I removed the MH components and replaced them with AI LEDs.

So you've pretty much converted your Spectra to a Helios, looks good. l myself have just ordered a Helios from Germany. lf l remember correctly there are 24 x 3 watt crees in each AI unit, that'll give you 48 leds for your 120xl. l have an elos120, the 34 x 3 watt crees and 4 x 54 watt t5's will hopefully be ok.

These Giesemann fixtures are begging to be modified for LEDs. There are vent holes everywhere so heat buildup isn't an issue. The Helios looks like an Infiniti unit with LEDs instead of MH. From what I can see, it looks like an aluminum panel with LEDs mounted to it. I am guessing it wouldn't be too hard to DIY a piece like that for the existing fixtures. Hmmm.... :)

Hi everybody
I have Giesemann Infiniti 2*250+4*54. I wonder 12,5 k or 14,5 k , 21 k. Which one is better for growing and coloration at the same time ( if it's possible ). Because when mh on, i won't be at home during the day. So growing and coloration more importans than viewing. Thanks in advance

Question - I just picked up one of these lights used.

Yall running off a dedicated 220 circuit or did you go with a step-up transformer and if you did what wattage.

Also my light has the power cord coming out the side, from what I can see of these fixtures it should be coming out of the top (I see an empty hole next to one of the suspension holders), as such I assume this light was modded?

Figuring money wise it's the same in materials to run a 220 as it is to get a step-up but I assume that means more heat, possibly more used electricity and of course it takes up space.

Way to butcher a really nice fixture and downgrade to 2 ai units that won't get you anywhere near the spread or effectiveness of the original unit on that tank.

Hi can you tell me the size of the tank please(LxBxH)?

Here is a shot of my tank with a silver finished 48" Infiniti with 2x150w Radium 20ks, 3x 54w Blue+, 1x 54w KZ Fiji Purple.

Here is a DIY mod I did to give it some moonlights, there are more pictures of it on my build thread. I really liked the design of it, it was easy to take it apart and re-build it to do the mods.

I am building a 130x60x60cm 486ltr tank. As you know today there is alot of lighting to choose from. I don't know if I would go for a Giesemann 150x2 MH + 4x54watts T5's or 4 Cannon LED 50 watt each. But as you all know the price of LED is much more than the Giesemann fixture (3.3 times as much!!!). Can anyone suggest any lighting for my setup? I am going to keep LPS and SPS corals. Ther is the ATI T5 Powermodule 6x54 Watt (dimmable) in mind aswell but than you have to replace the tubes quite offen and it would come expensive every 6 mounths.

Giesemann Rep

Guys is there a Giesemann rep on the forums that I can chat with? I am looking for a glass cover for my infinity. Anyone know where I can get parts?

Thanks in advance.
