Giesemann Lighting Club.

For those looking at the Genesis, it will be a lower cost replacement for the Aurora. They are passively cooled, so leds are dialed down to only 50% of the vervve.

Like ive posted previously, ive seen it in person and to be honest found it underpowered. Take note deep tank owners

Since its been over a year since these were originally announced, I wonder if there will be any changes? Time will tell.

These will be perfect for my 300g FO tank...please dimmable T5s!!!

I want:

1. beautiful slow sunrise/sunset;
2. multiple channels for great color combinations that LEDs provide;
3. Excellent light distribution from T5 & LED combo;
4. Passive cooling...fans can become noisy;
5. Two 3 footers is fine for my 8 foot long peninsula tank;
6. Low wattage LEDs since I have excellent ambient light, I only want supplemental low watt colorful light;
7. dimmable T5s!

CAN'T WAIT

Dont get me wrong I LOVE giesemann fixtures. The one thing that worries me about the genesis is the same as with the spectra. Their T5's are passively cooled. As heat climbs throughout the hours of use, the efficiency of the T5 bulbs will drop. Giesemann packs their T5's even tighter to allow for a sleeker design making that contribute even further to poor heat management. The Matrixx(not related to the conversation)is a heatbox, by far nicer looking than the ATI, but puts out way less par due to heat issues.

With the Spectra, those two MH reflectors are doing all the heavy lifting. T5's are just for taste of blues, so I could care less about that issue. Corals are covered.

Someone using the Genesis(not you since you will run a FOWLR) keeping corals counting on the T5 par can be misled, if the tank is deep. For fish only tanks, that unit is a slam dunk though for sure.

I could be wrong once we see par ratings of that unit(BRS testing hopefully), maybe the 50% capacity on the leds are still plenty.

Nonetheless, I love hybrid units, and think we all get advantages having them as options in the market

FWIW, I turn my T5s off when the halide is on. The Radium had amazing color without any supplement so I let the T5s cool off for those hours and then only run them before and after

Anyone run their Geisemann Matrixx II T5 only fixture without the splash shield? BRS had a youtube video that said that worked really well in their testing. Not exactly sure what that means or how many % improvement. If some other PAR testing was done, please point me to it. Thanks!

Im using a 72" giesemann infinity light fixture 3- phoenix 250w 14k bulbs and 4 60" 80 watt t5's.. 2 of the t5's are ATI blue + and the other 2 are actinic+ bulbs

I'm currently running this light fixture above a 220 gallon reeftank 72" x 24" x 30" I just recently put in some sps frags and they are having a very hard time adjusting to this light. They lost most of their color withing 2 weeks and I'm thinking this light might be too much for them. Currently my light fixture is 10" off the water surface and the time schedule is:
actinic on at 10am
Mh on at noon
Mh off at 6pm
Actinic off at 8pm
Does anyone have any ideas what i can possibly do? Hate to reduce light schedule even more but will if i have to.

6 hrs of halide from the get go is a lot of punch. Plus blue + puts out lots of par.
You are def bleaching your corals.
Lower MH to 3 hrs and lower t5's to 6 hrs. Raise the fixture above the tank for a few weeks until you notice colors coming back.

Bit the bullet and bought the Spectra for my next build! Ive always wanted to run this unit, IMO the holy grail of reef lighting. Having ran T5's Leds, Leds again, Hybrids...Halides have given me by far the best sps results.

The tank is still a few months out from water but its nice to know lighting is covered.

Awesome ReefCowboy! You are going to love it. MH/T5 is by far my favorite lighting I've ever used and I've used almost everything. MH only, power compact, T5s, LEDs and T5/LED hybrid. T5 only is also great IMO. It just lacks shimmer but colors are amazing.

Adding some LEDs to my current setup would make it a little better since blue LEDs create an amazing pop

Moondoggy, Rtparty,

Thank you! I know I will like this unit, while running Sunpowers, Orphek, Radion G4's, I had kept an eye on this forum waiting for the right build to end up with the Spectra!

Im on the look out now for some blue led supplementation. Really wonder if the new Euroquatics E5X T5/led bulbs would work well enough with it?

RtParty,

What are your plans with supplementation?

The LED T5 bulbs are on my radar but I am afraid of the heat and killing the LEDs.

If I can find a Reefbrite locally that I can borrow I'll attach it and see if it totally ruins the look.

I've also thought about the Kessil A80 attached to the "mesh" grill. It shouldn't stick down too bad or I can cut holes in the mesh and hide them in the fixture. Again, heat would be my concern here. The RB strip would at least be away from the halide so while might diminish the look, I know the LEDs will be safe.

The kessil are in my mind also(A160's)I thought of running them around the halides only, meaning they ramp up and shut off right after the halides go on. Then turn on right before the halides turn off and ramp down by themselves. I guess that way at least the leds are running with less heat inside the fixture? Maybe I should do A160's on the sides and an A360 in the middle...What are your thoughts?

The reefbrites do ok job IMO, not bright enough for a nice pop such as the kessils. If you get silver reefbrites, should be able to blend them nicely with the spectra.

Yeah the a160s will work as well and it has been shown it can be done with a lot of work and modding of the fixture. Not sure if I want to go that far when a Reefbrite just bolts right on with very little work. I am not worried how they look with the halide on since I will only run the LEDs during dusk/dawn and to see that blue pop.

I am not sure if the heat only kills LEDs if they are running or if they are "safe" if turned off.

The LED T5 bulbs would probably be the easiest and cheapest route for both of us. I know the new version has been made stronger and brighter so that would help. I'd replace my Blue Plus bulbs and leave my Actinic. Hmm, maybe I need to find one and at least try it out

If you try the led t5 bulbs pls give us a reciew. I need more pop in my setup as well and wondering what combo of blue+ and actinic+ and led t5 would be required to pop those colors

Well....I have had a 60" aurora over my tank since April. I have noticed that as the day cycle changes the lights will dim and turn all the way off and then turn back on. Also, at the very end of the cycle the two L most LED clusters turn off. I don't know why or what's up.

So today I just went to a local meet and got my first big stocking of sps frags. I mount them and they were looking amazing. An hour before the lights are supposed to go off my circuit trips and I look around and cannot for the life of me figure out why. I reset the circuit and everything comes on but the lights.

I unplugged and checked all connections again. When I tried to connect to the light via Bluetooth the message I got was an error trying to connect to the light. It wasn't the future software as I shut down and restarted the computer as well. I have no idea how to troubleshoot this issue.

I mean, how long can I go without lights? $3g for a fixture and I don't even make it 6 months? Really? I hope there's some way to reset it, but it's at least 24 hours until business opens and I'm fearing I'll have to buy another fixture as even if mine goes in for repair what am I supposed to do in the meantime?

I'm really bummed right now and searching for answers.

I was talking to GCaroll last week and he said BRS has recently tested the EX5 t5-led bulbs...
He said they showed high par and did well.
I will try to find out more about them and post here. That would be our best option for sure

If I can find them I will. Almost nobody has the E5 bulbs and the E5X were supposed to be released months ago and still nothing. Kind of a shame if they can't even get them to market.

That's good to hear that BRS has them. I hope they carry them soon because like I mentioned above, I can't find the E5X anywhere. A couple places have the E5 leftover but I'm not paying full retail for a discontinued bulb.

On their Facebook page they said Marine Depot was a bad business match. That doesn't sound promising to me since Marine Depot is huge and could have provided them a lot of sales. Not sure how that's a "bad" fit for business.

I just got the tank in place and am now officially part of the Spectra club as the light is hung too. As you can see I went with a 24" Spectra on a 42" custom tank. This is no accident. I plan on keeping SPS on two islands near the center of the tank and then supplimenting with two Kessil's on goosenecks. I have a 360 WE that I will test but was thinking about the 160's. I apologize about the crappy picture

I heard the E5X bulbs showed poorer spread compared to the older E5, since they arranged the leds without the frosted shield. Their main focus now was par, which I like better over the old model bulb. They do not sag as the led aluminum heatsinks hold the shape of the bulbs now
