Not the best pic, but what do you think just on this photo? I put a deposit on it going to look in a few days.

Oh! and its blue:uhoh2::lolspin: horrible looking thing, do not put it in your tank:thumbdown

Repeat after me 'I do not want it. I do not want it. I do No:eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1::

I'll tell you what, because of the folds and the way the tentacles seem to be spread apart towards the center lead me to believe that it's a gig. The size of the tentacles and the way the carpet is tightened up looking could lead one to believe that it looks like a haddoni but to be quite honest with you, just from this one pic, I would say that it is a newly imported and or unhappy gigantea.

It was only imported a few days ago, so you could be right

Looks like haddoni to me, but to be sure, simply lift up the edge of the anemone, and see if there are spots on the underside. If there are no spots, it's haddoni. If it has blue/purple spots, it's gigantea.

It's still in the shop , going to have a look hopefully on tuesday....i put a deposit purely because they said it was a purple carpet.....guy in the shop isn't clear whether its a gig or haddoni....it apparently has a baby carpet that will hopefully split later ..so 2 for the price of one :)

That anemone will never split. If it has what looks like a smaller anemone growing off the larger one, we have no evidence to show this is anything beyond a simple deformity. This has not been shown to be a form of asexual reproduction in either of these species.

Well i found it strange to hear it had a bud on it's columm, time will tell...i'll post some pics once i get it...fingers crossed it stays alive and is healthy when i go and get it

Ec, just looking on the net there seem to be a lot of carpet budding stories....do they never actually split?

"Never" is a long time :) Let's just say no one has ever seen it happen. If it DOES happen - make sure you take lots of photos!!!

S. haddoni is not known to reproduce asexually. The only clown anemones that do (with any degree of frequency) are E. quadricolor and H. magnifica.

There have been quite a few anemones show up with these types of deformities. Many people see them and automatically assume it's some form of reproduction. I've seen no evidence to show that it is, and today's science doesn't recognize this as a means of reproduction. We have snakes and turtles with two heads, cows with legs growing out their neck, and pigs with two snouts, but we don't assume this is a form of reproduction. We have anemones with twin pedal disks, twin oral disks, and what appears to be tiny anemones growing out of the oral disk of these anemones. Until we have some kind of evidence to show this is a form of reproduction, we can not make that assumption.
Here's a couple of pic's I've taken. The first one is doreensis with twin pedal disks, and the second one is an unknown species (maybe a young crispa?)with twin pedal disks.

Well it'll be interesting to see, just spoke to guy at the shop and it ssems to be doing well, so hopefully a tuesday pickup

Sweet! Even if it never splits, it will still be an awesome critter to have. Very few people have anemones with twin oral disks.
