Ginger works with ich... Every time I use it

No he is not reef junky like us, but deals with infections in people daily and has done quit a bit research. He was refering to a reef safe cure and a cure for commercial fish farms that could produce a product that was safe for human consumption. My bad

I doubt there is a useful predator in the wild for this purpose. The massive scale of things tends to keep Ich down to just a minor nuisance in the wild. It's the enclosed spaces that makes it a problem for us.

Sorry to chime in here but if you had to treat twice how is that you can say it was cured?

2 seperate times lfs I got him from I think runs copper he don't admit it but tested his water cuz I just bought a flame angel and his sal is 1.020 and alk 14dkh no3 above 25 used elos test kit salifert for alk. My flame angel broke out the next morning after a 3hr drip acc to my reef spread to my tang juiced garlic soaked flake food and fed my fish took 1 week feeding 3 times a day and no trace of ich same happened when I bought sailfin 4 mnths ago had a blue tang before the sailfin broke out bad treated with kent garlic he fought for 2 weeks but eventually died from the parasite wish I knew then about freshly juiced garlic may be coincidence but I was not risking my fish to find out after the sailfin made it the first time. I have a friend that breeds dogs and says garlic will deworm pups as well idk

I don't think many people would recommend a 3 hr drip acclimation!

and why not? figured I'd try to get him used to my parametersr slow n gradual had an air pump running in the bucket everything you read is about things getting shocked from drastic water parameter changes. I thought I was doing the right thing should I have just tossed him into my tank?

Sounds like the just the visible symptoms went away. You should read the sticky on Ich.

The pungent taste of ginger is due to nonvolatile phenylpropanoid-derived compounds, particularly gingerols and shogaols, which form from gingerols when ginger is dried or cooked. Zingerone is also produced from gingerols during this process; this compound is less pungent and has a spicy-sweet aroma.Ginger is also a minor chemical irritant, and because of this was used as a horse suppository by pre-World War I mounted regiments for feaguing.
Ginger has a sialagogue action, stimulating the production of saliva, which makes swallowing easier.

Hmmmmm....

Ammonia build up.

u want to get the fish out of that thing ASAP.

if no changes to salinity, u can do it within minutes, if salinity change, then take max of 30 mins ... more will just increase PH, turn ammonium into ammonia, and ...

i'm not sure about the acclimation. i think there is a difference between shipped and lfs fish...
i know amonia is a serious problem in shipped fish, but i would think it would not be a big issue in lfs fish (maybe bagged for 1/2 hour).

so a little bit of ammonia is good for the fish ? makes it stronger ? or makes it appreciate its new home with no ammonia more ? :)

Ammonia burns fish's gill.

no point in 3 hour acclimation anyways. does no good.[and builds up even more ammonia]

How will you be able to tell if it worked? In a day or two all the spots will be gone, a normal part of the Ich cycle. Or the fish will suffocate, but more likely all the visual symptoms will just go away.

Only measuring stick I have is visual, If spots go away and don't return and fish survives I think it's safe to assume the fish built up resistance to the pest. This fish appears healthy and happy, eats well and does not seem to be bothered by the spots. Also I have had this fish for two years as of today, it showed signs of ich two days after adding to my 36 gallon, 3 month ago I moved it to my 150 gallon and spots showed up again, it's the only fish with spots and it is in with clowns, chromis and tangs, I find that odd.

How are you doing it? In a QT or DT? Soaking it in food or did you dose the entire tank? Describe the process, please.

Mixing with food. This is the only fish with visual symptoms in my tank. Started showing about two weeks ago. I mix 1 cube mysis 1 cube brine shrimp I cube reef food a equal amount of Ova and about what amounts to about half cube of ginger, I let it thaw in sea water, I feed 2.5 ml of this mixture in morning and 2.5 ml in the evening and some nori mid day a couple times a week. I started adding ginger tuesday morning. Intresting observation, I was watching the fish with a magnifying glass yesterday and actually saw one of the spots drop off, it appears to become too heavy for the slime to hold it, then falls pulling a slime streamer behind. this streamer seems to act like a parchute and I watched blow into my rock work.

This is incorrect. The spots will come and go as a natural part of the lifecycle of Cryptocaryon. The disappearance of the spots does not mean the ick is "gone". Rather the microbe has entered a part of the lifecycle that is not visible to us.
