Glue coral over algae?

I have a montipora cap. frag coming in the post and know where I want to put it, however the rock in question is covered in some dark green algae that my clean up crew wont touch. I was wondering if I could glue the coral on top of the algae? And if so will the coral eventually grow and cover it up?

I have uploaded a pic, there are also some weird things growing on it, I have no idea what they are?

I seriously doubt that the glue will hold on that. You will probably need to take a brush of some sort and clean that off by hand.

This is a brand new tank, right?
If that particular rock hasn't settled in yet it might not be the best place for your monti. It may have some nutrients inside it that haven't balanced out with the water and until they do algae will keep growing there because it can catch them before the rowaphos does.
Another choice might be to attach the monti to a smaller clean rock that you can place where you like it but still move aside if you need to scrub the dirty one.

How big is that rock? If possible I'd remove it, treat with peroxide, brush it and rinse it in SW first. I can't see a frag sticking to it unless you clean it up. It sounds like a hassle but you can probably get the job done in under 15 minutes.

Yeah this is literally the only rock in the tank that has this problem. That is a good idea though, I dont have any more suitable pieces in the tank but I could see if my LFS has any tomorrow as im going in to get some coral dip.

It is a small rock, but the problem is I have used adhesive to stick it in place, so unless the adhesive hasnt secured it properly it has to stay put.

I bet those rocks can come apart way more easily than you're thinking.

I like the "mount it to a smaller rock first" idea. That rock can be attached elsewhere if you want. Reef safe epoxy such as WaterWeld does a good job joining a rock onto another rock as it fills gaps and provides stability. And it can be undone reasonably easily should that be called for in the future.
