Hey guys,

Just wanted to share this quick video I made!!

Its of my Diamond Watchman Goby going to sleep. It doesn't sound that interesting, but its cool to see, and everybody who sees it agrees! It took 21 minutes of leaving the camera running but I finally got him!!

He has a flat rock completely buried in the sand and a little room dug out underneath the rock. In the morning, he comes out and during the day, the entrance is completely open and uncovered. As lights out approaches, he covers the entrance with sand, and the hole disappears. When he's ready for bed, he dives in for the night!

Check it out!:eek2:

What do you guys think!? Does anybody else have a Goby that does this?

Scott

Very cool.. I didn't know they would actually dive under the sand like that to sleep. My Yellow Watchman Goby generally sleeps inside the cave that his pistol shrimp and fire fish buddies have made.

Were the lights still on, or was that some sort of flashlight/outside light?

Yeah, my other little Goby just has a spot in some rocks that he hangs out in.

Cordell, the lights were still on. He used to have the hole covered a bit before the lights went out, then once the lights went out, he would go to bed, but now he usually does it before the tank goes dark.

My Diamond does that too!! its so neat to see him every night like clockwork.. cover up his tunnel with sand.. then 5 mins before my actinics go off.. he dives in :lmao:
its def a neat trick to stay safe for the night!!!!!!
very cool you got it on camera!!!

Cool! Mine never did that, they just always slept in the burrows they made under the rocks. Though I did have one that built a wall out of shells and rocks. I loved watching him move rocks that were bigger than his head.

The tang took advantage of all the stirred up stuff to grab a bite to eat LOL.

My Diamond pulls sand out from under a rock and creates a cave just before lights go out. I have never seen one do what yours is doing thats cool

Thanks everybody, glad you guys like it!

He does have another little cave he sleeps in occasionally, but this is his routine 95% of the time. Maybe I'll try to record him for an hour or so to capture the whole process of him covering up his hole and then diving in and speed up the video, we'll see...

I love watching him work though. Like SushiGirl said, watching him move the big stuff is great! He's always working!

He's by far the favorite fish in my tank and probably the whole hobby! He was my main motivation to try a salt tank in the first place! Lost my first one the first night out of quarantine, jumped out of my display tank Christmas morning 2011! I have since learned my lesson and have screen tops now and have had this one for quite some time now.

Thanks again everybody!
