Going On 48 Hours

With no power.... So far so good. The generator is cranking and I still have 11 gallons of gas in the garage. Not running the halides as I'm trying to conserve fuel as much as possible but sverything else is looking

Really hoping power is restored soon although I'm hearing rumours of Saturday. Just praying that Briggs and Stratton doesn't crap oit on me. Don't kniw if they're designed to run non-stop like this....

Glad to hear things are going well! I wouldn't imagine that running the generator continuously would be bad, although the manufacturer does recommend changing oil after so many hours, I'd imagine - especially important if it is new. I hope you are letting it cool some before refueling. I believe I read recently that someone in my area was burned while refueling a generator.

Very nice that you have a generator... I learned that lesson the hard way 6-7 years ago. Lost two tanks a 29gal FOWLR and 15gal nano-reef (that was a REALLY great reef setup...)

We had an ice storm that took our power out for an entire week!! nothing I could really do but watch it all die... at that point - worried more about keeping the family warm.

SO - I've only in the past couple years had the heart to get back into the hobby AFTER purchasing a generator.....

As far as running it non-stop - I wouldn't worry too much. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea as described already to let cool before refilling - but over-all, they're pretty sturdy to my understanding.

I have a 6750 Briggs ran it 21 days pretty much all day long only shut it down to gas it up or change oil never missed a lick. Just keep good oil in it if you run it all day change the oil every 48 hours or most will shut off when you least expect it with the low oil switch. Good luck man you should be good don't know how far 11 gallons will get you I was burning thru 30 a day in mine

Power came back on last night so I can now breathe a sigh of relief. I feel so bad for all those people on SI, in NJ and Long Island. All reports suggest they won't have power any time soon.

As for gassing it up, I never even turned it off, I simply refueled while running. LOL. At the end of the day, the generator performed flawlessly and I have to admit, THAT is the best investment I ever made.

DO NOT DO THAT. Like for real man, you can blow your whole house up. Let it cool down for at least an hour/hour and a half before refueling.
