update tank photo

Gooliver your tank is looking great! Great job! Mine is doing fine, but I have had some algae problems that I'm trying to solve, and a recently introduced yellow tang has a bacterial or fungal infection.

Just hooked up mine and OMG those people saying to use both 1" and 3/4" as drains have got it so wrong! The 1" drain is pushing out more water than I can pump back up with my Sequence Dart. I have the pump return using 1.5" pipe and split into 2x 3/4" returns, an almost ungodly amount of flow is happening and yet the 1" drain had to be spooled back a bit or the refuge will fill up! BTW I should point out that I am not using the 1" Barb drain that comes with the RR but instead a bulkhead that the 1" Spa hose fits into.

actually....i am not using the 3/4" hole at all....it's meant to be for the return line...i just put a cap on it and instead run a seaswirl as a return. hth

You should unplug that 3/4 and use it as another return, the more angles that you can create flow from, is better!

So have you setup the PH in the overflow yet? All I can see in your pics is the seaswirl. Also, how high above the top of the 90g does it sit?
I'm in the process of putting together my 90g + 30g sump as well, and I'm contemplating my circulation options.

I must say that I am very happy about the 3/4" seaswirl. It is the only thing i use for flow along with a mag 9.5 return pump and it gives sufficient flow all around. I did not install any other powerheads.

Not sure what you mean when u asked "Also, how high above the top of the 90g does it sit?" If you are refering to the seaswirl, i just let it sit on the frame of the aquarium and secured the tightning screws. I dont think those screws alone can handle the weight.

Rephrase... I was wondering if a lighting system that sits on legs (like an Aqualight Pro or OuterOrbit) would have enough clearance between it and the tank for the SeaSwirl to fit underneath it. However, I see in the earlier pics how most of the unit is off the back of the tank so they should be ok.

Great looking tank btw. :D

Gooliver - the look you have going on that tank is exactly what I'd like to see in my new 65 AGA Megaflow! How is the noise on the seaswirl? Does it make any audible whirring or other motor sounds as it is rotating?

It sure looks like that would be the way to go if it provides sufficient flow for fish and corals, and would save a ton of plumbing work, even if it is about $150 investment.

thanks!

hi jp...no notceable noise from the seaswirl.

Sometimes when the canopy is open you can notice a sound that comes and goes..not loud at all....you cant here anything when the canopy is on.

New XM 10KS on and new aquascaping

I have replaced my 14k MH Hamiltons with 10k XMs and have also changed the aquascaping a bit...loving the XM 10K Color. Here are some pics:

I just ordered my SeaSwirl from the selling forum, and can't wait to see it in action. It's my incentive to have my stand construction and rough plumbing completed by next weekend.

Golan - my Sea Swirl arrived this week, and it looks like I need to do some demo on the hood I built =(

How did you determine that you wanted it in the corner, instead of mounted more in the middle using the Y-adapter for greater sweeping coverage? Do you think there would be any noticible difference?

thanks,
jp

Hi JP,

I think there would be a difference...no doubt about that...the reason i did it this way is to: a) not have it so visible in the tank b) i have mushrooms on the left hand side of the tank and they dont like high flow. They way I have it setup right now does high flow all over the right hand side and all over the top of the tank...with lower flow in the mid to lower section of the left side...i dont have any algae or diatom problems so it worked for me. I hope this helps - keep me updated :)

PS. I changed to X10K SE 250 lights and I love them - great color

Looking to make my own sump with fuge. I was thinking of buying a
glass tank from petco and using acrylic to divide the tank into 3 compartments. What glue should I use for glass to acrylic?
