Golan's 90G Reef

well...that is exactly what i did except i didnt buy the tank from petco...buy it used from a fellow reefer or check the recycler.
You dont need glue - aquarium silicone from OSH

DIY 30G Long Sump is in

DIY 30G Long Sump is in

I finally put in the new DIY 30G sump in today...i can't believe i managed to fit it in through the door opening - if it was a centimeter longer it would not have fit...phew! that was close.

As you can see it is a very tight fit:

Here she is all up and running - the refuge now has LR and cheato (no sand) and the water has to travel through the live rock to get to the return pump hence less bubbles makes it through.

Nicely done!! :) Glad you were able to fit it through that opening. I was a bit skeptical when I saw it in person though I have to admit. Does the extra length and configuration help with the microbubbles?

All you need now is some matching shelves next to the tank for the other goodies :)

hey Steve, how does it feel being single again? haha

the extra length does help as the bubbles have a longer period to rise and burst and the bubble trap seems to be doing a decent job - it is hard to tell for sure right now because my pump may be cavitating.

By the way...i removed the nozzle from the seaswirl - thanks for the advice there.

The frags are doing great, i added a MJ900 on the top left to get extra flow for now and they seem to like it.

Mag 9.5 to Eheim 1250

Mag 9.5 to Eheim 1250

In hopes of reducing Microbubbles, i went from Mag 9.5 return pump to eheim 1250. Reduced 600gph to about 250gph. that's less than 3x - hope that will be ok for now until i add a strong closed loop. It's really weak flow, can barely feel the flow even when putting my hand on the output of the seaswirl.

here's a pic

Oh man...can't hear anything from drain or pump - lovin' it!
I put in a "ghetto" bubble tower for now until i make a taller version - it's a little too short - using a tall water bottle now - gotta get someting 2-4" taller - it's too early to judge the microbubbles...gotta give it another couple of hours so everything can settle.

Mag 9.5...perfect for the closed loop :) If you're worried about running it out of the sump as the disclaimer states, keep it inside the sump and use flex tubing to plumb and you'll have a killer closed loop. And to put it over the top...get a second seaswirl and you've got a super clean looking tank.

yeah...that's an option, but i have my heart set on another eheim :)
will sell the mag 9.5 soon probably. I'm not sure where i can place the 2nd seaswirl - it's still a work in progress.

I removed the filter sock today and will not use them..instead i built a bubble tower (original concept by melev) made from 3" PVC pipe ,drilled 1/4" holes all around the bottom and used pvc glue to attach a bottom made of eggcrate - this will allow to remove the tower without spilling the rocks out.

SPS!!!!

Plumb it and fire up the pump!!! You'll get microbubbles for a while and if you're lazy like me and don't clean the strainer as often as you should...you'll get some cavitation microbubbles too. But the sps are gonna love the extra flow...and now you've taken this step...what's next??? Kalk reactor? Ca reactor? :D
