Yep got it, based on this site I have the pipe too high or low..I'm going to play around with it a bit.

Lookin' good gooliver! I fixed my "flushing" sound by pulling up the height of the standpipe.. I found two very minor drips in my plumbing that I have to take care of, and will be getting a T5 light kit from reefgeek sometime after June 1st (backordered)... nearing the end of the tunnel, but i think it'll still be a month or so before I have the tank circulating with saltwater!

Lookin' great gooliver!! I wish I had some pics to post, but have not yet rec'd my lights (backordered) and taking it all slowly. Good news is the filtration mechanism seems to be working. My next task will be to put in saltwater, put mud and algae in the fuge and some good lr in the tank. Probably won't be done with all of that for 3-4 weeks.

Very nice! I really like the open feel. Mine is packed with live rock from front to back, top to bottom.

entropy..i like the opne feel too - it is great to watch them swim out in the open - especially the yellow tang - it is an orgasmic experience for him to be able to move around so freely

Hi Gooliver, are u going to have to use a chiller? I've got the exact same tank as you. Building my own stand and canopy, wasnt thinking of the heat from the lights and only built the cannopy 8" hith and 2 of that hangs over to cover the plastic around the top of the tank. I'm prolly gonna do pendants and they will only be ~4" off the water surface if i mount them as hight in the canopy as I can. I'm thinking of tearing apart the canopy that is 90% done and making it 12 or 16" tall so i can adjust the lights up and down if needed.

Your canopy looks about the same as mine. So, u think u r gonna need a chiller? I'm worried I will need one depending on the lights I get...

No, I am not going to have a chiller. I have a 10" canopy any the distance from the bulb to the water is about 6"-7".

Right now (since its a new tank) - the lights are on for a total of 7 hours and the water temperture does not go past 82 degrees. Keep in mind this is without any fans installed. So, once the fans are installed and the lights go on for about 12 hours - i dont think it would get past 82 degrees, maybe not even past 80.

PS. My canopy has an open back - makes a big difference i hear.

Also you could try a hole in the top (lid) of the canopy with a fan exhausting the hot (rising) air. Hoods without a top or with vented tops are even better at releasing heat than hoods with only an open back.
This will help to avoid needing to add a chiller even more.

Well if you are ever finding yourself creeping up any higher on the temp scale that is something that I would try. Also thought that I would mention it for anyone else reading.
