Goldflake Angel...

ROBONE20, do you know what kind of corals the goldflake was eating? Good luck with the new fish, love this species.

The previous owner mentioned SPS and Chalice. He said it mowed down on a couple grand worth of corals. I think that's why he was so fat when I got him, LOL.

I've read through this whole thread because my queen angel is showing the same signs. Very long, white stringy poop with a bulge at the anus. I've had it for about a year now. I'll try and post some pics soon but I'm thinking internal parasites. Although it would make sense that it could come from improper nutrition, I mainly feed spectrum pellets and nori. I rarely feed her sponge-based foods. I did start today though...

Reading through this thread reminds me of when I was keeping freshwater discus (which need to be dewormed also). Prazi doesn't kill all types of worms and parasites. I remember I had to deworm also with pig dewormer which I believe was lavamisole to get rid of the worms (stringy poop and actually seeing worms). I don't know if it can be used on salt water fish too, but it is a thought. Also had to use metro, but it had to be used at high doses on discus, don't know how it would translate to a saltwater fish.

IME this is a very good way to treat internal parasites. I have had success with a metro based medicated food that was effective after all other remedies had failed.

I used a metro based medicated fish food for internal parasites from a company called Blue Lagoon, I'm not sure they still sell it, I wasn't able to find it the last time I looked. Aquarium Solutions sells Metro +, which can be used as a bath for external parasites or as a food soak for internal problems.

Not sure what you guys do but I prophylactically medicate with prazipro for all my fish. But I usually wait until the fish are eating before I do that.

By the way I just got my shipment today from PIA. Take a look at the little Goldflake I got in - she's really tiny. About the size of a nickel. She's in there with my Moorish Idol that I got in too. So far so good! I think they both shipped well, especially the Moorish Idol that was trying to fight its way through the bag when I was acclimating it. I also got a Potter's Angel and Mystery Wrasse in another QT from the same shipment, but the Potter's is struggling to stay alive.

ROBONE20- Really cool Goldflake and Idol. The Moorish Idol, in particular, looks in really good health.

Can you explain your acclimation process? Details would be great.

Love the tiny goldflake! I have a black tang about the size of a quarter...

What does PIA stand for?

Here's my 'very basic' acclimation process that I use for my fish:
1.) I float the bag into QT for 10-15 minutes with the bag open to the air.
2.) I use a solo cup and grab a half cup of tank water and slowly pour the contents against the side of the bag (like a trickle effect). I continue this by adding the tank water and waiting 5 minutes in between each addition.
3.) I do this until the bag is somewhat full, then I empty half of its contents for disposal (I have a bucket next to the tank to empty).
4.) I repeat adding half cups (sometimes a little more during 2nd round) every 5 minutes until the bag is full again.
5.) I then hand grab the fish or pour out all the water until bare minimum (into disposal bucket) or enough that the fish is not out of water and I place the fish into the tank.
6.) I leave lights off for 24 hours and observe every few hours, but I don't feed until day 2. I use ambient lighting to view the fish.

My quarantine tank consists of two 20 gallon tanks linked together by one sump (30 gallon rubbermaid bin). The return pump I use is a Rio 2500 (split the returns into each tank). I use one overflow box between each tank, and I also have a Rio 600 in each tank for added flow as needed. I use a Via Aqua heater (300 watt) and maintain my temperature at 76-77 degrees. Salinity is kept at 1.023 adding RO water each day. 10 gallon water changes every 4-5 days - more if needed. I feed heavily (2-3x per day) during QT period to get the fish fat and happy (soak all food in Vita Chem). No skimmer, but if I had some extra money I would get one. I keep a package of carbon either in the sump or in the backside of overflow box. I utilize the filter sock from my display tank to help with beneficial bacteria. I wait until fish are eating (at least a week). For treatments I remove carbon and prophylactically dose Prazipro (per directions) and carry treatment for 14 days. For lymphocysts, I let the fish ride it out and make sure I keep up with water changes. For Ich, I treat using Cupramine with a concentration at 0.3 for 2 weeks (add more as needed after water changes). I'm afraid of the hypo thing, just not comfortable with it. I need to try it though.

This is what I do and it has worked for me. But feel free to critique as I'm open for improvements to my process.

So far the little Goldflake is swimming around freely. Let's see if it eats tomorrow.

I'd love to see a picture of a little black tang. That would be awesome to have. Pacific Island Aquatics is based in Hawaii, this is the first time I purchased from them. My experience so far has been great. Kevin takes care of you. And the fish!

Love this fish. I've had mine for a few weeks now and has grown noticebly in this time. He get fed 4 times daily on flake and frozen and simply cant get enough.

Everytime I get off the sofa she's waiting for me at the waters surface. She's currently the boss of my tank.

i loved that idol. He was really fun to watch eat pellets and fight off the hybrid black tang he was in to get more food. We are taking time to try and get all the harder to acclimate/adapt fish to eat with gusto before we even put them on the site. We had that idol for over a month before we decided it was time to post it (hence the price tag - but i think it is well worth it!!)
