Good feeling after a water change?

Well my daughter went to bed at 9, and Jess was gone at work until 11 so I decided it was time to do a nice water change and a thorough maintenance check on my system. Everything is running great and in prime condition. Finished it all around 10:30 and now the tank looks fantastic. It's like cleaning the house for me, I always feel better when the tank gets a good cleaning. So, I wanted to let everyone know out there, just because the sun is out and is shining take the time to care about what's in your house too! :bounce1:

I know the feeling. Water changes are so easy to procrastinate. I have a fish in quarantine right now and am doing one gallon water changes from the Display tank daily. It's really easy to do a gallon at a time. I may stick with the practice after the QT is done.

Hmmmm...a gallon a day wc, sounds like an interesting venture. Anyone done/tried this before?

I may try the gallon a day, I bet a lot more water would get changed by the end of the month then does now

A gallon a day would mean I would be replacing the entire volume of water every 21 days...lol. I just do 5-10 gallons every two weeks, depending on how bad it looks or if the parameters are a bit out of wack. You are right Mark, it is crystal clear this morning.

10-15 a week for me. It's rare that I miss a week.

I tool an hour to scrape all the coraline algae last week. That was pretty gratifying. Did an aiptasia hunt a couple of days ago. Things were looking sharp!

Got home late last night... Algae all over the glass. What am I paying allowances for ?!? ;)

So, Mister, you could try a half gallon a day or even a quart. Honestly, I much prefer lots of small changes than lugging buckets of water up the basement stairs.

I have been doing small changes for as long as I can rememeber which isn't that long at my age; 1%( 6 gallons ) . Maintenance activity adds another 10% or so to the monthly total . I usually siphon up detritus from one spot or another with the change out water.

Same for me. 10-15 a week in my 75.

Ugh, I can't stand scraping coraline... Please stay on my rock! You look better there than on my glass and I won't have to scrape you off lol.

I can't believe how much coraline I scraped last night. The tanks been up for 4 months and the back wall was covered. I think I know where my Alk and Ca go now... I do really prefer the clean back wall though. I just wish the plastic overflow was cleanable. I made a 3 foot scraper by putting a slot in the end of a 1" PVC pipe which holds a razor blade perfectly.
