Salty Critter in Vermilion is well worth the drive, maybe 30-45 minutes.

+1 on Blue Fish, they have an awesome staff that is very helpful.

+1 salty critter because they are good and couldn't think of their name.

Aquatic tech is a good store. Iv'e seen this kind of comment about him before but my dealing with him have been good.

Thanks for the tips. I'll pass it along and maybe plan a day trip myself

I haven't been there in about a year but you can usually find some great deals at RMS aquaculture. I don't know if they have anyone well versed in saltwater other than ken but like I said they have some great prices if you're willing to overlook the unkempt tanks. For instance, they've had platinum clowns for $30 each and I got a female cross hatch trigger there once for $60 because it was labeled and had come in as a blue throated trigger

I have moved to about 95% of my purchases are from online vendors due to cost, selection and convenience, but the choices listed include all the stores I know of in the area.

Yeah online is more convenient for me. This post was for a family member in Cleveland looking to get started. I've only ordered live stock from Live Aquaria. What are some places you've had good experiences with?

I like Bulk Reef and Aquarium Specialty for Equipment
I use Bulk Reef for food too now.
I use Amazon Prime to order all my salt
I use Blue Zoo, Vivid and Live Aquaria for fish and some coral, also like Pacific East, Battlecorals for coral.
I think the best deal for coral is one of the swaps locally.
Those are just my preferences, I know some have had mixed results will Blue Zoo, but I never have. I do think some of the local stores could have better customer service, but I'm not going to call out someone's business publicly.

Not sure what you are looking for but we have by far the largest selection of livestock available in the state. Here is a list of some not so common things we got in this week:
Chrysurus Angel, Maculosis Angel, several pairs of Rhomboid Fairy Wrasses, Dwarf Golden Moray Eel, Black Tang, Show Dussamieri Tang, Lookdowns, one Large Zebra Moray Eel, and much, much more.

We have been involved in fish and invert breeding and research and have recently succeeded in rearing the harlequin shrimp hymenocera elegans. We have our own onsite research lab where we culture phytoplankton and copepods and perform our culture experiments

That is quite the stock list for a beginner :fun2::fun2:
Haha I know you guys have plenty for the beginners too. I may have to make the trip to check out the Lookdowns. They wouldn't happen to be tank raised, are they?

To the op, tell your friend to hit up Aquatica on the same trip as aquatic Tech since they're so close. They should be able to get all the materials, livestock, and knowledge needed between the two.
