Then why aren't you open minded to suggestions to make it fair instead of insulting people?

I am sure CMAS BOD will see these comments to make it better the next time around. I am not insulting anyone just Voicing my opinion like anyone other member. Volunteering my time doesn't give me power I'm a nobody just like any other CMAS member that would volunteer there time. I help moderate the forum but I have no power in the club. I just volunteer my time. Meaning I'm a Member that is stepping up to help the Club. I'm just saying I spend $20 vs $300 I volunteered my time to help. You win some and you lose some but you live to reef another day.

In the interest of the club....

this conversation should be taking place between members on our own website.

Why, so it can get locked by George when you see someone/something you don't like? No one who has been FIRED from moderating another local forum has any business moderating the CMAS forum. Yet another reason that the BoD needs less power and the membership at large needs more.

The beautiful thing about these internet forums is it is easy to host an online poll and take a vote from all your members.

I was referring to the "cry about it" and Jcarlilesiu's "your opinion is silly" comment. Thats insulting, especially coming from a group that wants membership.

Well yes and no, some of us non-members would like to discuss these things, as it really is a deciding factor on whether we join or not.

You can't open a "swap" to Members AND Non-Members but then say any discussion about that event is limited to Members only!

It was until YOU locked the thread and moved it to the members only forum. Deleting all those posts also makes it pretty discouraging to voice an opinion there. You made it clear that an open discussion was not what you really wanted. This is the exact kind of crap that made me cancel my membership.

He has a habit of doing that when moderating forums.

I agree with all the suggestions here/ All Ideas hold so good. With regards to the moderating on the forum: the forum is new and we are working out the procedures. IMO a thread should never be deleted or disappear and I will look into if negative comments are just removed for no reason other than being negative. I will not volunteer my time to an organization that does that. I am currently the Vice-President and may consider running as the president if people can accept working as a team and being constructive in their criticism and ideas. I was just talking with someone on the fact that limiting the numbers of tickets is something to consider. It is a shame that 80% of the large prizes went to two or three people and I feel the should go to people that would appreciate them and not try and sell that at the same event to the highest bidder. That is making a business out to the raffle and I don't feel that provides a service to the members of the club.
We have to understand that the club generates most of it's money from the raffle, but at what expense. We will lose some revenue by limiting the number of tickets, but I feel the total revenue may increase because more people will be willing to spend $50.
The Idea of having our own forum is to be able to have discussion like this in our own area and the main decisions happen from members of the club. I agree we still need to take suggestions and have discussion with non-members as well, because seeing their ideas come into existence will give them the best reason to join the club.
I hope this makes some things clear from how I see them. PM me here or there and I will be willing to talk openly about any or all ideas and suggestion. I am looking to host online meeting with the board that all can attend. Or course in that atmosphere, order needs to be maintained to be able to get through an agenda and most people will be muted on the call, but the software I plan to use will allow all to post questions and raise their hand if they wish to speak. Then we can allot a time for questions and comments, being limited so the call don't take 5 hrs. Any thoughts?

Thanks for weighing in! This post does help defuse the situation Jcarlisle created. Why he's your moderator I will never understand. The fact that you at least are willing to listen and consider options will probably have a positive effect on the conversation. Online meeting is a fantastic idea and I'll be there! I may even join again if I actually see some progress in the club.

The first productive post I have seen from a CMAS board member. THANK YOU!

One thing that should be addressed is the way people representing the club talk to others. No need for personal attacks on people.

Another, The people running the raffle should not be allowed to participate in the raffle. Maybe compensate them in another way... $25 gift card to a Sponsor (hopefully that can be donated) from the sponsor.

I've been reading all this and some makes sense
But the one thing I thought was really messed up was someone asking
Who wants to buy stuff that they just won..that's wrong
If you don't want it let them raffle it off again

Or another idea being is let someone spend as much money
As they want on tickets...but make the raffle rules stating
Only 1 big ticket item per person may be won
That way it's fair if there are 3,4,5 big expensive things to be won
You can only win 1 time no matter how many tickets you put in
That way if someone puts 100 tickets in it..yes there odds are for them
But there only going to get one not all

But all in all this was my first swap and it was fun
Little over priced by some vendors
but others had some good deals
Look forward to the next one

What reason did they give you for not being allow to run?

Didn't come to the required number of CMAS events in the past year. Normally I wouldn't think that is a horrible requirement, but because of all the issues that have occurred under the current CMAS BoD i believe it's a requirement that should be lifted for the current election. Especially because at least one current BoD member is running unopposed.

Wow, I don't know about everyone else...But, this club needs a president like you! (no offense to the current one but...)

It is very refreshing to have someone not only "listen" to our concerns but to offer suggestions and solutions. I would definitely vote for you for president!

Well it looks like Carl is in favor of lifting it, now just need to get the vote out

The only people that have voiced any opposition are the person running unopposed who might end up with some competition, and his buddy. I have to believe that if this was put to a membership vote it would pass by a huge majority.

Seems no matter where I go the people at the top won't let honest discussion take place. At least I don't have to pay to be a member of some places, and glad I didn't pay to be in CMAS.

I've talked to some and heard that given the turn out at some members' only events, the minimum required events might be lifted for at least this election. I, for one, would vote in favor of the lift because I'd rather see certain people able to run.
