Seems no matter where I go the people at the top won't let honest discussion take place. At least I don't have to pay to be a member of some places, and glad I didn't pay to be in CMAS.

You should pay and come out and vote in the next election. Hopefully the by-law change referenced below will pass and the club can move into a new era.

I've talked to some and heard that given the turn out at some members' only events, the minimum required events might be lifted for at least this election. I, for one, would vote in favor of the lift because I'd rather see certain people able to run.

I sure hope so. I for one will be running for treasurer if the requirement is lifted. I have done the job before, sat on multiple BoDs for other organizations. I want nothing more then 100% transparency between the BoD as well as significant power to make decisions given back to the membership at large.

And for those who think the raffle wasn't fair:

Raffles are fundraisers. The point of raffles is to donate to a cause, not to win something. This individual who bought all those raffles tickets donated LOTS of money to your guys' club. That's a bad thing?

The idea that raffles are about fair odds of winning are completely misguided. If you don't want to donate to CMAS, then don't participate in the raffle. It's really that simple.

Or if you just want to donate and don't care about the prizes, then just donate and let someone else win the prize that might use it personally. ;)

The moderation on the CMAS forum is being addressed and discussed. I apologize if folks feel their voice is not being heard. I appreciate the input from members and non-members alike. Just realize the that I do believe the final decisions should be left to the members, board, and trustees. ;)

As a paid member of CMAS, this has been a very disappointing read.

I have been to some great swaps in past years, but haven't made the last couple.

Fair?

Fair?

So to keep it "fair" collect 50 dollars as you walk in for "donations" and give the same number of raffle tickets to every one. If you don't want to pay 50 dollars you don't get to participate. CMAS gets their loot, and everyone has a fair shot and one person doesn't corner the whole market.

That puts a cap on how much CMAS can bring in, that's ridiculous. There shouldn't be a cap because some people can give more than others, and it shouldn't be a point of contention either.

my 1st swap

my 1st swap

I'm not a CMAS member, but I'll throw my 2 cents in if you're really looking for opinions.

I'm still cycling so I wasn't buying any frags but I figured I'd stop by just to see what it was all about and maybe try my luck at the raffle.

I don't have a problem with people buying as many tickets as they want. The containers were all clear and it was obvious what the odds of winning were. If it wasn't for the requirement that winners needed to be present, I would have bought $20 and tried my luck. When I saw how long the odds were for winning any of the items I would have tried for, I decided it wasn't worth waiting around for the drawing.

If you allowed prizes to be picked up at the next CMAS meeting you would make more money on the raffle and probably increase the attendance at the next meeting.

I just have a couple things to mention......

The definition of a raffle according to thefreedictionary.com

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/raffle

so with that being said, I think that its great that the guy/everyone can spend that much money on the raffle. All he is doing is buying more chances to win the prizes. Also, All the money is going towards the club, which is good, It pays for the FREE food that is at the swap, the cost to rent out the place, etc.

Also, there are other events that have gone on that i went to in the past and only a few people show up. Like the events at the local fish stores. They have had raffles there as well as amazing deals and i have always walked away with stuff and there have also been free food at those as well.

I think that it is good that they require the winners to be present because then everyone would leave and someone would have to store all that stuff and lug it all back and then contact them and wait for the winners to pick it up. if it was me i wouldnt want to spend hours trying to contact everyone.

also i thought it was nice that they put all the winning tickets on the items. that way i had a chance later to go through each item that i put tickets in for to see if i won. yes i had to wait until all the tickets were drawn but that way if i couldnt hear or had to step out i could come back and check.

I feel that if people think there should be a change to the club or that they think something could be done better that they should take action and do something about it and not just sit back mention what could be better. I feel the CMAS community needs to realize that the people in charge and everyone taking part in the club are all volunteering there time because they enjoy it.
