Green carpet anemone losing color?

Ok so i kind of let my tank get away as far as maintaining proper chemical levels and as a result my beautiful green carpet anemone appears to be bleaching. The last two weeks i have been getting all my chemicals at the proper levels they should be at and it seems as if hes getting a little bit of color back. My question-Would he start to lose color because of in proper magensium,calcium,alk,etc.. levels? The last two weeks he seemed to be opening a lot more and his tentacles are moving a lot too. But he isnt moving around lately before he use to move every 2 weeks or so up or down the rocks but now it seems as if he found a good spot. is this normal for them to settle down in one spot? Thanks for any help guys! Im going to get him a clownfish pair next week too.

What kind of lights do you have? Anemones are suppose to stay in one spot, where they are the happiest at. If they keep moving, either they are not getting enough flow or lighting. If yours is bleaching, then more than likely it doesn't have enough light and is expelling it's zooxanthellae. From what I understand, carpet anemones require some high lighting, T5's or Halide's. Calc, Mag, and Alk. has nothing to do with it. They don't have a skeleton to build, they just need light, flow, and food... Hope this helps....

Thank you! Well i have 4 400w metal halides and 4 actinic. I have a 360g Reef so i have proper lighting. Maybe i wasnt feeding him enough. He seems to be doing better now but still im worried about him.

You definitely have enough light, that's for sure... How often do you feed? I feed my RBTA 2-3 times a week... I would think that if flow was the problem, that they would just move to where they were happy at and stay put, but if it was traveling looking to food, it could harm your other corals, by stinging them and eventually stress itself to death which would be bad for your tank... Sorry, can't be of more help. Hope everything works out for you though...

Water parameters you mentioned can have an effect on anemones. They can cause unstable PH that can really upset anemones. Gigantea is not one of the most hardy anemones we keep. They require very stable conditions. It sounds like your anemone is recovering, but it's important to keep parameters in line and conditions stable.

Good luck.
