I have just cycled a 40gal that i was going to setup as a reef and thought i could maybe get a carpet anemone instead and then just add a few corals. What would be the best lighting to get?
Would like as much info as possible on this before i get one, I will be waiting 6 months but i just want to get everything researched and done before i get one
p.s this will be my first time with a carpet.

You will need as much lighting as you can provide (i.e. MH, T-5s, VHOs, and/or combination of two of them). I would caution you on attempting to house a carpet in such a small volumed system especially if you plan on having corals within it. They tend to grow good size and it would be hard to save corals and fish if something should happen to the carpet. Especially since its hit and miss with carpets and their survival rate from such things as shipping and poor housing practices by collectors and wholesalers. My suggestion would be to do as much research as possible while your waiting for your tank to mature.

What type of carpet?

My experience is only with Haddoni carpets. Current have two, one for over 7 years, the other one just under a year. The one that I've had for 7 years has been under both PCs and MH. It was under PCs for at least 2-3 years, and did fine under them (( when in my 58 was under 3*96, when in my 75 was under 6 * 65 )). It is currently under 2*250 DE + 2*54 T5, and is doing great. Can handle a decent amount of flow, but indirect, the oral disk shouldn't be "forced" to fold over because of the currents.

Of course getting a healthy one is the key, but mine have gone through some phases where my water was less then perfect. It didn't look as good at that time, but wasn't too effected. They look so much better when the water is better. Current numbers are 0 for the bad things, 420 for cal., 8 for Alk, 8.2 for pH, 1350 for Mag. Keep my salinity at 1.026 and temp b/t 78 and 81.
