Green Carpet Anemone

Hey guys,

Quick question here; is it likely that a green carpet anemone, or a stichodactyla haddoni, will host and be hosted by a pair of ocellaris clowns. Are the chances larger that they will be hosted by a green carpet than a GBTA?

That's hard to say. I've had my ocellaris in a H. magnifica and LTA. I just recently placed them in with my haddoni, and it took them about a week to get in it. Even then they didn't act normal. They would touch the anemone in quick jerking movements. After about two weeks of this strange behavior, I separated them.

I have seen others with ocellaris in haddoni's though.

yea,, theres a good chance they will just stay near it but not in the tentacles like they do in other anemones. The haddoni has a more potent sting. They will probably get eaten by it eventually. You should have kept ur BTA

Ocellaris isn't a natural symbiont with S. haddoni, but sometimes they do take to them in aquariums. It is actually possible that the haddoni could eat the anemone--my guess is that it is not likely, but not impossible.

two things, Where do you get a red Carpet, and second, I have a pair of black and white ocellaris and one orange ocellaris in my 125, will they all host into a carpet together or do you all think they'd need their own anemone

Oscellaris will host Haddoni carpet anemones. Orange or Black/White variants. They need time, because the sting is more potent they initially nudge it to expose themselves to the stinging cells. Their bodies build a natural slime coat. All clowns are not immune to the sting, it is the slime coat that "protects" them. Their bodies have the ability to adapt to the host, unlike other fish. Now, I had to juvi oscellaris that dove right in to a healthy haddoni, that didn't end well for them - they were nearly a snack. They had white stinging cells all over them, would not go back for over a month. Alas, it is natural for them to host and they did go back and ultimately hosted.

sure hope your planning an upgrade of your tank system and size. your gonna have issues [loosing] with that anenome.
they get big and fast! they need good/great water conditions which you will have some serious hard times doing on a 20g tank LOL.
lighting? your lighting is very very low for anenomes.
why do people buy first.research later???
