Green Chromis...new favorite fish?

I had about 6 blue chromis in a 125 tank with live rock for them to hide. But after having them for 4 years it became the ROYAL RUMBLE!

They all killed each other. :o

B/G Chromis' are like humming birds. They expend so much energy whizzing around... that they need to eat often. I have 15 in my 220 and I feet the tank two main times a day plus I add cyclopeeze a couple times too.

I have about 9 in my display, I have never seen much aggression...

My anthia's, blue tang and other misc smaller fish all school with them...

Also I have a few that have been in the tank from the beginning, and they are about 4" big already....

Its funny to see a chromis thats much bigger than many other fish in the tank...

They are soo nice when they get their lyre-tails as well....

If you're looking for a nice schooling fish, glass cardinals are really nice. I have 6 in my 120g and they always are grouped and are very peacful. Healthy ones are very striking, with the reflective purple color around the eye area.

I added 5...ended up with just one. Made a second attempt at a school by adding 4 more...ended up with just one. I've had my sole surviving b/g chromis for over 3 years now. He gets fed once a day. Does not bother any of it's tank mates (still the smallest fish @ < 2"). Mine is in constant motion. Fun fish!

BTW, I also add a little cyclopeeze to my feedings. The b/g goes nuts for this stuff (like a cat after some nip). :D

Green chromis must get aggressive towards each other.
The theory, as some have stated, is that chromis school for protection from predators. In the absence of predators, the chromis will start acting more "damsel-like" and start picking on smaller fish (often other chromis).

Would a small school/shoal do well in a 58g (36x18x20) tank with a total system volume of slightly more than 70 gallons?

I've got a pair of Ocellaris clowns, and would be interested in adding one of the smaller gobies, and maybe a dwarf angel.

I figure without the angel I could maybe get away with 6, with the angel 3. I want to say I've heard that you shouldn't keep them in even numbered groups, but that could be some freshwater superstition carrying over from the good old days :)

Any input?

I've heard that too. For whatever reason I heard that 5 is a good number, but I do not remember what the justification is/was.

I would expect the pair not to fight, but I think if they pair off the chances of the pair harassing the rest of the chromis would be higher.

Odd/even does not matter IME.
I had 6 for 5yrs no prob.
One did a carpet dive(I think from sohal I had)
5 remaining, no prob.
Now, here is the deal w/ me, during my last transfer, I lost my chromis.
I was so bummed I went out and got 6 new baby's, and one died w/in 2days(probably bad health)
Other 5 are OK right now, but they do seem more nippy, less schooly, I hope they will be cool.
Seems to be 50/50 on success w/ these guys, and I'm thinking there must be something else missing from the equation, like maybe where they are from, do we have all male/all fem, one male w/ a harrem or something to that effect.

Thats true also, cause I have had even & odds at diff. times, but always over 6 so I believe its when you have a decent amount there is no prob....

Well I now have 11 small in my 220 for about almost 1 month. They are doing great. They eat just about everything. I like when they follow your hand in a school.

also odd numbers is more pleasing on the eye than even. aesthetics.
