Green goni almost 1 year!

Well I read many stories after I bought mine that green goniapora are hard to keep. Won't live a year etc. Well mine will hit a year in my tank in about a month and is growing and never looked better. Just need to keep my clown out of it since it's becoming more attractive than her anemone. (Got them both when my tank was only 2 months old but don't tell anyone)

Congrats- that can be a hard one! I will say this though- I would lose the clown quick if he starts cheesing it. I have had a couple goni and alvi get stressed by clowns.

That is the most common result with goni... If you want to try again, your best bet is an aquacultured piece, such as from ORA.

i may try them again. im just discouraged because ive killed two already. and i hate to get something that im not sure ill be able to keep and have had bad results with before. i think ill try an elegance before another goni

IMO, Elegance coral is also hard to keep, I think that the Aussie may be the better one to try...as for goni, if it's not aquacultured, don't waste your $

Tanks are funny, the goni is doing great, and an elegance and a leather frag did not make it in my tank??

Some sps do ok and others just die, but my hammer and frogspawn I can see growth weekly on them? I guess you find what does well and stick with it. I have no problem with a lps/zoa/softie tank.

'Doing great'... Really like it,
'Not doing good'...not gonna replace it!

What's your PO4 and NO3 levels at? It looks great and happy. My manager has had a nice one for over a year or 2 and she barely feeds her tank.

Early on I had high po4 and algae problems. Lower now, but API tests not real accurate. My nitrates have always been undetectable. I used to feed too much but now feed gonipower once every week or two.

The color isn't the determining factor as much as the species... Stokesii is the really tough one, and it doesn't look like that's the species you have.

Well thought i would do an update since my original post. My goni is going on 3 years old now. Doesnt sound like many folks have had success for this long. As you can see has grown some and polyps are much longer. Had a time when i was keeping the water too clean and started to recede some, but has come back well and doing good now. Ironically to control my po4 i have not directly fed the goni in over a year. I used to direct feed often, but i just turn off the flow for a while when i feed now and it responds well. Also one of the keys i have found is they like strong light.

Pics with less flow. Can even see baby polyps growing. Did not realize how much the polyps have grown, prefer the look of the smaller ball shape, but guess that means is healthy?
