Green Hairy Mushroom Splitting?

I have a large green hairy mushroom and this morning it looks like it's splitting. The mouth is seperated down the middle and is dividing in a line down the middle. Does this mean it's splitting or dying? And do I need to do anything or just let it be? Will they both stay attached to the rock? The whole thing is shrunken some, which it normally does at night. I wish I could have gotten a pic but had to leave for work!

I have had these for awhile now and just noticed one of mine do it last week. I have also found them in places where I don't recall ever setting them. They must drop babies that can get carried around by the currents.

It did it all by itself and was two by the time I got off work.

I had mine split a couple of weeks ago, I was wondering if I can get one off of the rock and move it elsewhere in the tank

The best way to move one is to take the rock out of the tank and with a hammer and chisel, chip a small piece of rock off with the mushroom attached.

I tried fragging mine by chopping it off the rock with a razor blade. The shroom was at least 8 inches across. After I did that the pieces were pretty ****ed off for a while and the main piece split into 3 smaller pieces of various sizes. I finally got everything back on plugs but now I have to wait for them to grow out again. Also there are like 5 little mushrooms stuck on the rocks where the original big piece was.

In my experience Rhodactis can handle the worst types of abuse and survive at least as smaller pieces if not a large single piece.

Just another splitting story: I was reworking my rock 2 weeks ago and their was a hairy conected to three rocks. Well, because Im a noob I tried to gently pull them off the rocks. The hairy tore into 4 parts...all 4 parts are doing well...

very hardy imo
