I have not had much time lately to work out at the greenhouse because of my schedule, but I did make some time this weekend. With some help, I was able to fire up the water purifier for the first time and fill up a 750-gallon aquaculture system. I was pleasantly surprised that the water coming out of the purifier had a TDS reading of 4.5 down from about 800-900. I could later install a DI tank to get the TDS down to zero, but that is a very low priority considering the TDS is very low as is.
Having a new system full of "good" water really brought out how absolutely horrid my existing system with untreated well water looks. Just to recap, the well water had a TDS of 800-900 and precipitated this gross soggy corn flake material that covers everything. Some of the corals are surviving while some of the others did not fare so well. I plan on moving my livestock from the gross system to the new system and restart the old system with purified water after a thorough cleaning.
On a non-water related note, we finished winterizing the greenhouse, and I can honestly say I have no worries whatsoever that the greenhouse will remain warm in the winter. If there is even a hint of sunlight, the greenhouse heats up to about 90 degrees in a matter of minutes. Our gas furnace at night comes on and maintains the air temperature at about 70 degrees.
