griss’ Battle with Cyano - all the Things I’ve Tried

I think (knock on wood), that things are under control. Still a little Cyano here and there. Alk, Ca and Mg all good. NO3 staying around 10 and PO4 at 0.02 yesterday.

Not dosing anything for PO4, just doing water changes and running GFO.

For the NO3, I’m dosing about 2mL of ESV B-Ionic Nitrate.

Did a 5 gallon water change over the weekend and changed out carbon and GFO. Now the Cyano is making yet another comeback? Guess I need to get the test kits back out.

I'm wondering if refreshing the GFO might have something to do with it? To be honest, I don't remember the last time I changed it out so it may have been some time ago. Plus, after I made the post above, I noticed that some of the macros in the fuge have died off. At least, as of last night, the corals and anemones were still looking great.

Used a powerhead to blow the rocks off and then did a 5 gallon water change. Changed about the filter sock that had been on for 2 days.

Alk 10.2
Ca 400
Mg 1260
NO3 10
PO4 0.00

Fuge online and Caulerpa and chaeto growing back after about a 50% die off.

Still have Cyano????

I still only did the one treatment. Nothing adverse happened. My skimmer intake venturi clogged, but it was all salt, so I'm sure it was coincidence. I'll try again when I pick up some new bacteria.
@kharmaguru have you done anything more with the calcium carbonate? I finally ordered some tonight. Should have it tomorrow.

Its usually one year.....depends on the bulbs...I remember those cheap XM bulbs where like 6 months before they color shifted....the Iwasakis (sp?) where like a year...

Hmmm, okay. Maybe I’ll change the bulb out. It’s an Aqua Connect 11K+. I’m saving the Iwasakis for after the upgrade.

And yes, you spelled Iwasaki correctly😉

These are what I’m saving for after the upgrade. I have 8 of them. Also have 7 of the Aqua Connect and 8 Coralvue 12K Reeflux.
