griss' Tank Upgrade Thread

Nitrites and nitrates still barely detected. That rock from KP must have been really fresh with little to no die off.

Added the rock to the scape.

That looks pretty good and I would agree that you had minimum cycle. 🥳
So what's the plan from here?

At some point I'll need to move the livestock in the 40 over, which likely means pulling all the rock out. I decided not to move that rock to the new tank as it has Aiptasia, Valonia, Planaria, and is literally covered in Caribbean Porites. I'll likely try to sell it as a system at a huge discount. If not, I'll part it out. I need it out to be able to finish phase 2 of the basement.

Items on my wishlist: Purple LTA, several T. maxima and/or T. crocea, Acros, R. florida, CUC and more fish than I normally stock (I typically have a very minimal fish load).

Things I still need to do:
1. Build the water storage and mixing station
2. Build a controller board
3. Get the Hydros online and controlling the new tank
3a. Move the WaveEngine and OctoPulse from the 40 to the 150
4. Transfer the media reactor (carbon & GFO) from the 40 to the 150
5. Eventually set up a frag tank. I have a 50 gallon low boy but, I think it's going to be too big for my space. If I can find the 28 gallon low boy, I'll get that and sell the 50 gallon.

Tomorrow, I'll likely head to one or two LFS to see what they have.

One is a Petland that I've only been to once before but their livestock was really nice. Not a huge selection of SPS but, a decent selection. I'm looking for a One Spot Rabbifish and a butterfly, likely a Klein's. Nanook has had many Klein's over the years and I don't recall him ever having it pick at corals or Tridacna.

The other is Liberty Reef that has some really awesome LPS and they do weekly auctions starting at pretty much nothing. Their fish selection is minimal and they have a few Acros every time I've been there. I'm thinking about getting some of the Professor Polyp's Bubble Bath dip (which they carry) to dip the corals I move from the 40 to the 150.

Wow, still a lot to do but it sounds like well thought out plans. Also there is fun stuff sprinkled in all the jobs. Very cool what you have done so far. 😎

Thanks, Dawn. It’s certainly been a LONG, and sometimes frustrating, journey. I’m just glad it’s live and I can enjoy the tank in between finishing up the build work.

15 gallon fuge on the 40 has been torn down and dismantled. I love the smell of hydrogen sulfide in the evening.

On a positive note, I was able to save and transfer a dozen or two Amphipods to the new tank.
That looks great.
The Jabeo controllers are very close to water?

Didn’t make it to the LFS today. When I bought my truck (used) I only got one key and one fob. Apparently, when I got back from Home Depot last night I somehow dropped the keys between the driver seat and console and locked them in.

Mobile locksmith came and got me in and I asked if he could make a new key and fob. He was here 4 hours and couldn’t get the key to program. He said that it looks like someone messed something up when the previous owner tried to program a key because the truck computer showed 3 keys programmed when he started. He said I’ll likely have to take it to a dealer to get a new key made. But, at least I have a spare fob in case I ever lock the keys in again.

That sounds like a frustrating experience, uhhg. I don't like these new key fobs 😤, I prefer the regular old fashion keys.

Now I have a Service Theft Deterrent System error showing up when I start the truck. I've tried all the online ways to clear it but, not dice. I'll have to borrow a code reader and see if it's something I can do or have to take it in for repair.

On a side note, I'm going to try to hit those LFS tomorrow.
